I have whats left of my 88 mustang and would like to maybe buy another ranger to do a 302 swap. So far i have the following:

92 efi 302 e cam, worked e7 heads, full exhuast
a9l ecu
76mm C&L MAF
rebuilt t5 with Centerforce clutch
FMS Alum driveshaft
8.8 with 3.73 fms gears, fms auburn, 5 lug swap with discs
hotchkis upper and lower rear control arms
complete engine harness and main harness for the mustang
fuel pump from the mustang

What is exactly needed in order to do the 302 to a ranger as far as using the components i have now, I know mounts are a given but is there anything else specific besides mounts?

Also what year rangers would be the best to do a 302 swap into? I have a 93 shortbed reg cab DD ranger now. Would a pre obdII truck be the best?

I'd say you got a real good start on parts. The rear end parts for the most wont work except for the internals. Any Ranger '97' and older with the 4.0 (gets you the 8.8 rear) would workd good. The T-5 can will put the shifter back 6-7" from stock location, can be delt with. Check up in the tech Library for a lot of info, what you're wanting has been done many times so there's lot of help here.
