What is all over my intake

It may be faster and less expensive to get a re-man head from ebay or amazon or one of the web sites. There is not a whole lot of difference between the years, and there are a lot of heads in the aftermarket to match the original.
Even used heads may be good. I have found 'freshly rebuilt' transmissions in boneyards, so finding a good used one should be no problem. The ones I saw on the web wanted a $60 core, some were 'free' shipping, some not, and some I bet you could pick up if you were close and have no shipping. The market place is a lot larger now, and local shops may end up competing with someone in East Bent Nail, ME. Locals may match what you can find.
If you are attached to your head, and want only the original, you'll likely go local. Most times, re-mans will have all new valves as they can get them by the semi-trailer instead of a dozen at a time.
Cam differences should also be noted, as roller followers were used in later models. 89? Valve stem diameter changed also.

yea I took it to a local place that has a great reputation. I hope they do it cheap and right.

I have been waiting for the head, so I called the place they said maybe today but probably early next week. All four exhaust seats need to be replaced, hopefully that will solve the problems.
I was sent the wrong clutch, bought on ebay, they sent me another it was the wrong one. Got a call last night from Okla. The guy ask me if I got his clutch? I was like ?????? Then he tells me he got a package and it only had a pressure plate in it and a paper with my name and address. I was sent his stage 3 clutch for his honda, he was sent my replacement pressure plate. His almost would have worked, just a bit to small. God must not want my truck done anytime soon? Its been a long couple of months. Thanks for the help so far.

Please let the rest of the world know who you are dealing with so they can avoid them.

Were it me, I'd be on the phone, letting them know that I expect them to ship my order, correct, and send me a UPS/Fedex/USPS return shipping label so all I had to do was tape it up and slap it on.
I would NOT give them any chance to say "send us the wrong one, and we'll ship", they had their chance at that. They'll have to trust you this time, and you'll wait until the correct parts show up before you send them anything. They have your money, and you have scrap metal as far as its usefulness to you. They should ship before anything is sent back, they've delayed you so much so far...

Yup I have both still. And they did send a return label. Just not that great waiting.

I bet you missed your free oil change at Meineke 11/11. I got one as a long ago veteran.
For years, I did not know my drivers license renewal could be $0 as a vet. Found out! cool. First 'thankyou'. Last year, Meineke changed oil in my old Ranger. This year, Mom's T-bird. Nice thing to do.

I don't usually do that stuff, its always crowded at restaurants. It is nice to know that though, oil change would be nice. Everything I have done was done a long time ago, hahaha, don't know where time has gone?

I got the head back on Fri. It was almost 400. WOW, didn't think it would be but around 3-350. The problem was the seats were sunk in, they replaced all 4. Its a good place to get your work done just was hoping for work to be done sooner. I got a call and the replacement pressure plate was sent to a guy in okla. and I got his stage 3 clutch for his 400hp honda. He said he had done business with them before and they had great clutches. Well he is mailing me mine and I mailed his back to the business, ebay store is eclutchmaster. They have a really good feedback rating so I'm not sure what happened.

It was eclutchmaster on ebay. I got the pressure plate finally. I needed the pins out of the old flywheel could not find pins anywhere. I called Jackson Ford and they had them under 12.00. I bought a puller on amazon and had to grind down the bottom. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FHFRT6G/?tag=959media-20
It worked to pull the crankshaft gear. That and heat. Just have to put it all back together now. I didn't get a deer this year. It was so friggen windy, it would blow one way then another and another, gusting up to 40-50 mph. Then Sunday it was perfect weather but the other guys I was with did not want to hunt Sunday. I got out for 2 hours, only saw 1 deer and scared up about 2-3 in tall deep brush. I could not see them though. Thanks for all the ideas.

I remember now having a clutch resurfaced, and finding no pins when I went to install....

I do not remember if we bought new, or found the old ones in the brown paper the flywheel was wrapped in. Been too long.
Many many doe wander through the back & front yard, but very few bucks. They sure do have a natural color change that matches the season.
So, is it all back together? I would have put in a new Stant or Motorcraft thermostat, hoses and fresh antifreeze after all that work. You can then forget about cooling system maintenance for a few years(hopefully)

I am going to replace the electric fan temp switch, and will have to put new antifreeze in. I have to get a freeze plug for the head. If it stops raining I will go work on it today. If I can get the tranny back in that is half the problem. Really hard to hold it up and push it in these days, old age is very painful... :annoyed:

If you have a harbor freight nearby, the sell/sold a transmission jack for ~$50 .. used a 1/2" drive ratchet wrench to move up/down turning a screw. Comes with a strap. Not great, but you can use chunks of wood to brace for horizontal/vertical & there are some adjustments so you can get close w/o holding using your arms until the last 'stab' time.
Worth. It.
Getting old: My daily goal: vertical and above ground. Works for me. So far so good.

I got the tranny in. It took about 2 hours. I used a strap through the shifter hole to help hold the tranny up. I am glad it went in. I have to get a few bolts. I quit for tonight going start in tomorrow morning. I should have the head back on by the end of the day... Just as long as I can remember where everything hooks back up. :icon_confused: The pins I got from ford went right in the flywheel no problem.

Well I took the master cylinder for the clutch out and found out it is leaking from the end that is inside the truck. I should have a new one today. I was under the truck and noticed a wire hanging down with no end on it. It was from the alternator, probably why the battery light was on. It was just like the starter/ battery cable wires. I did start it for about 30 seconds and it seems to run okay. I did not have the acc. belt on yet. I got a new exhaust manifold pipe donut and it would not fit. It was to big to fit in the pipe, got it from autozone.I broke it trying to install it, broke off the bottom that was suppose to go into the pipe. It was the one for my truck? You never really know. That is the last 2 things to do, exhaust and master cylinder for the clutch. I have to wonder if that was part of the problem with the clutch? Thanks for the help.

Most exhaust manifolds don't have any donut or gasket. They have a rounded end machined onto the outlet of the manifold, and a 'funnel' shape on the inlet of the exhaust pipe. The funnel fits over the rounded end, and is compressed by the bracket surrounding the exhaust pipe. When you fit it, there may be leaks. I correct the leaks with the engine running, by giving a whack with a chunk of 2X4 or my foot, depending. Leaving the clamp bolts just a bit loose allows movement, and once it seals, they get tightened.
Old models used an asbestos or metal 'donut' that surrounded the inlet to the exhaust pipe, and had a swaged lip to prevent the donut from sliding down the pipe. I have a collection of all sorts in my basement stack of gasket boxes.
Most Rangers have nothing, I think.
