I am trying to wire up the ignition in my truck and trying to figure out what they are talking about in this picture/diagram. I don't know what the "start bypass" is and also do not know what or where the resistor is located.

Let me explain what I am trying to do since someone who has read this may know what what to do or how to "properly" go about it...
I purchased a '85 Ford Ranger manual 4x4 with the 2.3L that used to be fuel injected and had been switched over to be carburated. I am attempting to turn this vehicle into more of a pre-runner offroad truck than a everyday driver....SO with that being said I am wanting to install a push button ignition, I already plan on wireing in a disconnect switch that will shut down all of the elelctronics and fuel in the event of a rollover to help prevent the possibility of fire or fuel spraying all over the place....I am wanting to do away with pretty much all of the interior wireing as I will be wireing in my own gauges and switches.

Here is where it shows the diagram I am currently going off of;

Thank you for any and all help

power to ig box on a switch.

push button or momentary to relay post on the starter solo....

pretty simple.:dunno:

Ok so my solenoid has a S on terminal and I on the other......so the I would go to one side of my push button and I would have power from the battery going directly to the opposite terminal on the push button... correct? But what do I hook up to the S terminal on the solenoid?

Also how/where would I hook the coil into this whole mix at?

So, you want to start it with a push button, correct? Use the S on the solenoid for your push button trigger. Be sure it is fused as well.

As far as the coil, do you mean the ignition coil? That is where you would connect to the I on the solenoid, with a ballast resistor.

EDIT: Here is a diagram that may help.

Yes want to start via push button...thanks I think that is going to help me....Should I just buy a ballast resistor and wire it in the path? and also what size fuse should I install in line?

i usually get away without the resistor.

You may be able to get away with not using one. I was under the impression that it was a no-no to not use one when using Duraspark.

Sounds like cheap insurance that you don't cook a coil to me though.

I just used the stock coil, it is still pretty much wired in the same as it was with the feedback system.

yeah, i was referring to the dry coil...or e coil
