What is a good TPS sensor range?

My tranny has been shifting goofy, lazy, hard and other times it shift like a champ. I find if I feather the gas right before I think it should shift I get smoother shifts. I replaced trans filter and ALL the fluid. I refuse to think the tranny is going down and now have my sights on the TPS. My voltage is .88 at closed throttle and 4.52 at WOT. I always thought you wanted .98 and 4.56? Is .88 to low? If my TPS is fine I will try the last hope before a tranny change and that is Lucas "tranny man in a can". BTW it is a 2002 4x4 with a 3.0

Mine does the same thing but it shifts best when I get on from a stop, not really hard but a good 3/8 throttle. Sometimes it shifts really good and other times it seems a bit fluttery but its not slipping. I hate Auto tranny's but it would be nice to know that I just need to replace the TPS to make it shift right all the time, hopefully someone on here has a good answer to this question.

IMHO, those TPS readings are fine, and wouldn't cause
any shifting problems.
BUT....when you're checking the TPS voltage there should
be a smooth transition from low volts to high volts.
If there's a gap or spike in the volts during the opening of
the throttle, then that's where the shifting problems would
come in. A TPS is a simple potentiometer, and will wear in the
spot where most of the throttle movement occurs, which is
normally at a cruise setting, maybe between 1/4 - 1/2 throttle
opening.

This is easier to check with an analog meter rather than
the newer digital meters. (Easier to see the needle deflection).

0.49-4.65V is what they are looking for.
