I have a 1998 ford ranger 2.5l with 211,000 on it. Runs mint.

I chopped the whole exhuast off right after the o2 sensor and where the pipe coming from the cats connects to the muffler pipe where it bolts together. Thats all cut off. Now what i have is a 2.5" straight pipe from cats.

Sounds like crap like this it is very monotone and really just noise.

So what i have done is spent 40 bucks. What i got was a couple 2.5" Clamps for mufflers and such. A couple 2.5" connector adapters for 2.5" and 2 1/4 " exhuast. And a 18" peice of 2.5" exhuast pipe.

I ran that and connected it all together from right after the o2 sensor. and ran it to a side pipe. Has a 90 degree under the truck to send the pipe out to the side before the rear tire i also wanted this is there to dim the sound so it wasnt to to loud and annoying. This sounded alright not to bad for 40 bucks.

Now i got all that got a brand new free cherry bomb turbo muffler, and a few more free clamps. So now iam going to run the muffler right after the 02 and then continue to run the side pipe out.

This should sound great iam thinking. Theres not much more i can do to get great sound out of the 4 banger. it is what it is.

Maybe i put a fake clip on turbo wheel inside the pipe... that oughta sound good. haha :shok: ive gone crazy with trying to make this thing sound nice and raspy

i will post pics of the job before and after and how it looks and maybe a video or two of the sound differences between straight pipe and muffler..

go to 2.5 in piping it will be a deeper tone more throaty

put some baseball cards in the spokes.

im driving mine the same cuz the coupling gasket that goes under the cab is out. but it drives me crazy lol. when idle sounds cool, but once i start driving...:annoyed:

bahahahahaha

Put a muffler on the thing. Not only is straightpipe illegal, it sounds like trash. The smaller diameter pipe will give you a deeper tone, not larger. Same with a longer system, the shorter it is the more raspy it will be.

i am driving a '01 2.5L and just redid my exhaust wanting it to sound better. i put a cherry bomb glasspack on it and ran a tailpipe out to behind the rear right tire. that ended up not sounding loud enough for me, so i ended up cutting off the whole tail pipe section. i'm left with just the muffler on and nothing after it and it sounds pretty damn good to me. it's nice and loud, and probably the best you could get it to sound , short of removing the converter, which i won't do
