What have you done to your Ranger today?

Between yesterday and today on my new to me 99 I've changed the rear brakes, replaced the right front wheel hub, changed the 710, ordered mile marker manual hubs because the rugged ridge set it came with are complete SHIIIT! The driver side wouldn't stay on so I had to twist a wire around the little fingers that keep it on and the passenger side blew up after the first time I used it on a steep, windy, freshly graded road. In 2wd it would just spin the tires.

Those Mile Marker hubs work great.. Replaced my auto hubs early January because I couldn't count on them to lock in when I wanted them to. It was my first stab at using the autos and I hated them.

Today? I've been at work since 7:30. I haven't even touched the truck today. (Drove the Accord to work). But when I get home, I'll finish installing my new AC condenser.

So, I finished installing the condenser that day like I said I would. But, it was too cold outside to recharge the AC. So over the weekend, I finished vacuuming and recharging the AC. Hopefully I'll be done working on the truck for a while. I have other vehicles that need my attention. As for today, I drove the truck to work and will probably have to fill the tank on my way home.

Do you remember the part number? I'd like to see if they will fit my 99.

I believe they are Part Number: TS TS7706X

The TS is for TrueStop and they cost me 26.98. My little Ranger is a 2003.

Put new NAPA rotors on it along with the new pads.. The original rotors looked amazingly good for 160K miles. I had them caliper them and they were too close to refinish though.

After I fixed the blend door in the '96 I found that the AC does work (sorta) and it cycles on/off frequently.. I'll probably need to charge it up. I've had the truck 4 years and just found out the AC worked... With the blend door being stuck in the hot position it was either everything off or HOT. Glad that's done.. best 119 bucks I've spent.

Thank you! I'm gonna look that up right now.

The Rat's manual hubs are the original plastic with the peeling chrome option. One of the little extras that contributes to the utter hopelessness of restoring it . However ,they work fine. I shift the 1354e with vice grips , so working is all I need. Back when I was into Grand Wagoneers on the beach , I pulled many an Exploder out of the holes they dug in the sand when the front ends didn't engage. Jeeps had vacuum shifters that worked great as long as they got vacuum. I also had an 81 with a awd NP 219 transfer case. Built for 75 cent a gallon regular. :D

98 Ranger XLT 4X4

Not just today but this is what I have done to it over the last 90 days and I still have an idle problem and a check engine light.

Mass Air Flow Sensor
O2 Sensors (All Three) Downstream twice
Electronic Computer Module (Mounted in Firewall)
EGR Differential Pressure Switch
Fuel Pressure Checked – 62 PSI
Crash Sensor Module
Changed Vacuum hoses on EGR Valve
Replaced Fuel Filter – Twice
Checked for vacuum leaks around intake with a propane bottle – no change in idle
Verified EGR valve is free and working
Replaced heater hose valve
Gas Cap
Replaced Throttle Position Sensor

Back to running the little Ranger. I came to work this morning and will get home on 1/4 tank.. 32mpg from the 21 that the big Ranger gets.. Nice. My commute is 144 miles/day so the mileage counts.
Getting ready for an east coast run of 2500 miles, and except for a wax job, wiper blades and vacuuming, it's set to go.

Dropped the tank today because the return line from the fuel filter snapped off at the top of the pump assembly, and started spewing all of my gold on the ground. It's a replacement Airtex, but was bought by the previous owner, so (best I could find) I'm looking at about $200 here locally for a new fuel pump with a lifetime warranty - just in case that hose attachment snaps off again. I read here that it might have been easier to pull the bed off, and while I'd no-doubt agree, I still have several hundred pounds of random stuff in the bed right now, so I opted to do it the hard way.
