Im building a 2010 Ranger for fun and just learned the only packages offered are XL, XLT or Sport. WTF happened to the FX4(furthermore why get rid of my favorite ranger, the edge)?!!! Dude they are emptying the platform because they will cease operation soon:bawling:

Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reasons given for dropping those models was "To improve days on lot performance & customer satisfaction, order complexity reduction time". That's Ford talking. Not sure who's butt they pulled that customer satisfaction thing out of, sure wasn't anyone at this site.

More than likely they are doing it because of the current Ranger's winding down production run. Thinning the herd as they say. It happens all the time before a totally new model gets up and running in production.

Don't worry, we'll have one past 2012. Weather or not we like it is a different story.

They are trimming the fat and building what they sell the most of.

i be honest, i like the ranger "max", but i have no clue if thats even going to be sold in this country...or at all, but from what ive seen of it i kinda like it. from the videos ive seen of the max, none of them disclosed what engine it will have. My guess is the 4.0 is going, do to all the hype of enviromental protection and crap. Id like to see a more torquey version of the new taurus sho's "eco boost" engine available for it, that would be cool. a factory twin turbo ranger! but honestly, thats probably the last engine they would put in it.

well yeah, as ford will tell you no one would ever want a ranger with a v8 in it. There is not a single person in the world who would want a v8 in a ranger. And of course there is no one that would want a torquey v6 in a ranger. (even though v6 ranger's owned the v6 challenge). When it comes to the ranger ford seems "market blind".

the edge is now the "sport". it used to be called the sport pre-2001. then it went to the "edge", now back to "sport". And yes, i think it was a stupid move on Ford's part to get of the FX4. your better off getting an 08 level II or somehting!

Yup, market blind. That is why it is STILL outselling most of its redesigned competitors with its last major overhaul being 11 years ago. Most as in being everything except the Tacoma and including the Colorado, Frontier, Ridgeline and Dakota... even the Titan and Frontier (both newer trucks) combined hasn't sold as many units this year as the Ranger alone.

I don't know what they're thinking, but whatever. Seems to be hard to find a new Ranger at a dealer in any form. I went looking just for fun a few days ago and found only two Rangers (nothing used, either) between two big dealerships. One Ford dealer even had a whole line of used Chevy pickups. Weird deal but I guess I can accept that now I have one less fun thing to do when I should be working.

shran, that might be due to the economy though, even though the ranger is a very good selling pickup truck, alot of people are trying to get away with small ass economy cars instead of driving a pickup...even a 2.3l ranger gets worse then a civic or similar. So i cant blame the car lots for not stocking up on trucks. As for the line of used chevy trucks. that makes sense, seems alot of people are trading in there pickups and most likley buying that small gas sipper pos car. so they are going to try and sell those used chevy's instead of buying even more new trucks. I guess its just cheaper for them.

Between C4C and the model year end clearance stuff it is probably slim pickings for a new vehicle.

My biggest bitch is they don't offer a tan interior... I hate grey...
