I have a 99 4x4 xlt xtd cab runnin on a stock 4.0 and i was just wanting some opinions on what would be the loudest/best sounding exhaust/muffler i should go with. I know i dont have a v8, so its automatically out of the running for being the loudest on the road but with that said any pointers?

Thanks ahead of time

Check out youtube. Lots and lots of Ranger exhaust vids on there. But just to get it out of the way now.... NO GLASSPACKS! I'm guessing that you will end up with a flowmaster though. They seem to be the loudest on the OHV 4.0 from my experience.

a friend of mine said that i should go with a flowmaster super 44 but i was just wondering if anybody was running one already and their opinion on it

For sound, go with the Thrush Fully Welded. Its the same thing as a Flowmaster 40 series, and it is cheap.

i got a magnaflow universal on mine, side exit before the tire, i love it. it takes the "v6" out of the sound.

I have a Gibson cat-back on my Sport Trac. Sounds throaty and not like a V6. The wife says it's too loud so it must sound just right. :D

I've got the thrush fully welded on my 4.0 SOHC. And i can safely say that it is loud, to the point where the guy i'm staying with, has asked me to do something about my broken exhaust. It wakes him up when i leave for work in the morning. It has a nice tone, doesn't snap and pop when i decelerate too bad, and overall its been a nice upgrade. I would reccomend it to anyone, except a 4 cylinder, because really, who wants to hear 4 cylinders of fury at 6 grand?

flowmaster super 40 or original 40 or super 44 are all great sounding mufflers

I'm not biased :icon_twisted:

duals are a waste of time and money IMO, at least one a V6 ranger. just run a single out however you choose.

Plus 1 on the single. Duals are well overkill me thinks for wiener trucks like Rangers an Tacomas.

Just FYI I run the Flowmaster Deltaflow 40 series and it has a great tone at idle, 1800 rpms and 2500 rpms. BUT its the quietest of the Flowmaster mufflers. More muffled so to speak (pun intended I guess).

I put a Cherry Bomb Turbo on mine.. Single exhaust factory plumbed.. Sounds great! throaty... not like a bumble bee... I am super happy with the sound. and it was around 19 bucks at autozone

Unless of course, all you can hear is the whistle of a turbo. :icon_thumby:
