The power companies inTexas are ripping us off.

I'm currently paying 22.9 cents per KWh. A year ago I was paying 6 cents. The best plan I can find is 13.9 cents per KWh. The power company jacked my rate. I went from owing them $30 a month to over $200 a month.

Just curious to see what the rest of the country is doing.

The Utilities Company I deal with, uses the past 10 years of usage to get an average. When you move into a place, your first bill is the average cost of the past 10 years of residency. So I pay what the previous tenant paid. It's a real F'd up system if you ask me. So they don't care if you're actively trying to reduce your bill. It doesn't matter. When I moved to a new lot, no previous tenant or resident, they just used MY past 10 years to get the first bill. I WAS PISSED to find that out, because part of getting a new place was because we were paying SO much in utilities, we thought a new, more efficient place would be cheaper to keep cool/warm.

It’s been a few months since I checked. But I think mine is around 14cents per kWh.

Mine is about $.14 Per KWH, over the past year it has gone up about $.01 per KWH

This summer has been mild so about $200 per month, last summer was very humid and it was over $350 per month.

Winter I'm normally about $500-600 per month. Electric heat.

They brake down the generation cost and distribution cost separately, b. In PA you are stuck with whatever company owns the power lines to pay their distribution rate, but you can choose who you by the power from. ie, different companies may have different rates for generation, some have a fixed rate, some have variable rates.

My bill is based on actual electricity used. You can also set it up to average how much power you're estimated to use for a year, then you pay the same amount every month.

Current average in Illinois is 13.73 cents per kWh.

Seems we pay really close to that during the peak part of the summer heat. Wife did say the bill had increased this past month or so. I thought because my mom was here.

lots of candles..........:icon_rofl:

& a whole bunch of led light bulbs

here in Ontario we make use of *smart meters*.........

Residential - Summer

(May 1, 2022 – Oct. 31, 2022)

Up to 600 kWh/month: 9.8¢/kWh

Over 600 kWh/month: 11.5¢/kWh

we have on peak hour usage, mid peak usage, off peak usage...hence the smart meters

i don't look. my bill is always around 600 a month during the summer. it has been for as long as i have lived here. in the winter it goes down to 125 to 150 a month.

no insulation in this old place. once it cools down, the plan is to go into the attic and lay down a bunch of insulation

Don;t forget to apply for that rebate on your taxes. What's good for the goose...

Been paying around 11-12c/KwH for quite a few years. My power bill is around $150-200 in the summer and $100-$150 in the winter... it really depends how much I am in the shop. The welder, plasma cutter and compressor suck a shit load of juice. I do not have central air, but I do have two fridges and a freezer. Gas stove, water heater and furnace.

My gas bill is usually about $25 in the summer and up to $100 or so in the winter and that is to heat both my house and my shop.

Well...back in the day/1980 our 1,500 sq. ft. home used 800KW/$40.00 in August along with $10 per month natural gas.
WE always keep the thermostat on 75*F/summer and 70*F/winter

Now we own a small 1,500 sq. ft. retirement home....it's all electric/same size central air-heat unit. July's bill was $275.

Even with the cost of "living" over the last 40 years the cost is still too high.
Of course $100+ cost of a barrel of oil doesn't help (thanks a heap World "Leaders").

IF a barrel of oil dropped to $50...that would be within the "cost of living" increase over a period of 40 years.....
BUTT....I guess those M.E. solid gold toilets need polishing more often....and those Political 10% Kick-Backs are a necessity in these trying times :pissedoff:

The only upgrade electrical additions are two 55" Flatscreens.

I can't wait until they shut down all those nasty oil refineries...
my utility bill should drop to $20 per month :haha:;missingteeth;

10.9¢ from midnight to noon. 17¢ noon to 5PM. 29¢ 5-8PM, then 17¢ from 8PM to midnight.

The utility in Sacramento County is publicly-owned. So, we aren't paying for executive bonuses and Wall St dividends. It's still expensive, but not nearly as expensive as the investor-owned utilities here.

Oh, my. I’d be turning the main breaker off from 5-8pm every day.

Where I live in Virginia it's 11.5 cents per kilowatt. Glad we don't live in England. It's 34 cents a kilowatt over there. Yikes.
