so ive got some choices to make here and looking for advice, im currently working on my brothers truck its a 94 with a 2.3 I4 with a 5 speed, yesterday his tranny failed, truck has 180k miles on it.

my options are

part out the truck.

or

spend 450 on a used motor set up with 100k miles .....

or

or rebuild his tranny and get a FQR 2.3L I4 from a ford dealership (total parts cost would run around $3000)

he has money for both... what would be worth it?

im leaning towards the re manufactured set up as the body and frame are all still in good shape. and its his DD,

i looked on craigslist for prices on trucks and most rangers are like $4K-6K for high millage rangers in the denver area.

what would you guys do! :icon_confused:

get a rebuilt tranny. the 2.3 is a strong long life motor, 180k is only half the shelf life if taken care of properly.

Im gonna agree rebuild the tranny If the body is good you cant go wrong with it.

yeah i agree its a strong motor, but my brothers a real douche to his truck, i was figuring with a new motor he would get another 180k worry free miles, (at least worry free for me) . i wish i could find a remanufact. tranny, but apparently there not too common, the cheepist quote i could find to have it rebuilt was 850 with parts and labor, which i guess is good...

buy it from it from him and ill sell you my 90's 2wd tranny. mine is a 2.3 and 5speed :D
