Today I drove up to Red Deer to look at a 1993 Ranger. Its the SWB step side, 4WD 3L standard. This thing is bare bones. Manual shift T-case, and Manual lock hubs. It has 196000km and some minor body damage to the fiberglass in the left rear corner from where the guy backed into his garage, its just a minor crack and nothing major. There is some rust on the bumpers and some minor surface rust and scratches all over, nothing major, it is a 4WD so I'm not to concerned. The stereo is an alpine deck with 2 alpine amps, tweeters, capacitor, and 2 15" Alpine subs, covered by a taunno cover on the box of the truck. The entire front end suspention (everything but coils), breaks, all 4 shocks, and 4 brand new Goodyear 31" 's

The biggest problems are that I can use for a bartering is that the engine is covered in 200 000km of oil leaks and the power steering is quite noisy (no big problems for me). The lights in the instrument cluster do not work, I'm leading myself to believe that is is a wiring problem as all backing lights are out, all the warning lights work. The vents in the dash all have broken fins (cheap parts at pick'n'pull), the kick panel on the drivers side and the floor trim is cracked and broken up (also cheap at pick'n'pull), and the arm rest lid is busted and does not lock shut. Also, since it is the standard cab and with the 2 15" subs, they are located in a box in the box of the truck and then are ported into the cab, it looks like it has been properly sealed too, but there still has been a hole cut in the back of the box, and the back of the cab, and the already small box of the truck has been cut down by half. It also has a solid rear window and not the slider, that I'm not to fond of either.

His asking price is $3750, I'm thinking with the amount of work that has been done and considering the truck has a $5000 stereo, that it is a fair price, I'm thinking of asking $3200 for it. What do you all think about this deal? Just as a side note, trucks in my area are quite pricey and this is an average price for something in this shape.

I'd offer $3000.00 to start, go from there.

Shoeboy is right. Rangers-- small trucks in general-- go for alot of $$ here.

Being a short box 4x4 with manual t-case is good. The 3.0L may be leaking but should have a good amount of life left in it.

Plus, most importantly, it gets you back in a Ranger !!

Ya, I know the oil leaks nothing to worry about, I'm just using it as a barter. Everything wrong with it, aside from the dash lights, seems like an easy fix.

The dash light bulbs may just be blown. All of mine went at the same time. Just a thought. Truck looks good.

All that leaking oil will keep the frame from rusting.:icon_thumby:

Yea I'd say start at $3000. To bad you dont live in Florida. Ive been searching my local Craigs list latly and theres a bunch of pretty decent Rangers for cheap. Hell my buddy is looking to get one he found on there for $3500, its a 98 4 cyl 5sp Flairside with 65,000 mi on it.

Well the box looks like its been mounted to the box of the truck quite securely. how it goes into the cab seems like its sealed quite nicely too. It is made of plywood, so I should have some flex. It does look like it have been done with some skill behind it.

I also sent the guy a message saying that I offer him $3000 for the truck, I'm still waiting for a reply. I'll let you guys know how this deal goes.

Well, it looks like its going to cost me $3400, for the truck, I think it fair, and to be honest, the $3000 I offered was low balling the value of the truck. I do think I am going to get the truck to be honest.

Rust free.:icon_thumby:

Yeah I think they wired the dash lights in series for what ever reason because all mine went out and the very first bulb was loose poped it back in all my lights came back on.

Nice truck too, how did he connect the bed to the cab for the subs?

I hope it works out for ya, I know you been itching to get back in a Ranger and get of that P.O.S. you've been drivin'.

If you don't buy it I will...and throw a 347 in it, Good luck!

Jspafford, Trucks here in southern Alberta are stupidly expensive. I'm driving a 1991 Dodge Dakota right now, with the 5.2L and auto 2 wheel drive with 256000km, and a transmission thats on it way out, needing a windshield, now its needing a muffler after mine decided to explode and fall off on my way home today, and its going to need front end work. Even with all it needs, the body is in decent shape, and it is the extended cab, I can get $2500 for it without problems. If that was a car in that shape, it would probably be going for about $800. Everyone here wants a truck, so the prices have gone up by huge amounts. There are 1990 give or take trucks going for $5000 with nearly 300 000km, and people are willing to pay for them.

The market is very similiar in Saskatchewan. I looked for 6-8 months for my truck, and I payed $8500 for it. It's a 93, and that was about 4 years ago. It had around 200k on it at the time. I payed fair market price.

If my truck was in the condition that I bought it in and I was to sell it today, I would ask somewhere in the $5-6k area, and that's for a private sale. It's just the market around here.
