What do you guys think of an escape?

I'd look for a 4-banger myself. I love the V-6, but the 4-cyl isn't exactly a dog and it gets 2 or 3 MPG better. Plus they are much much easier to work on.

X2, well said. I like my 4 popper. Plus it has no timing belt =).

Mother in law has a 01 5 speed 2 liter.Only needed belts and an axle about 100,000 miles good in the snow about 30 miles to the gallon on highway this isn't once it's regularly. They load it to the top and climb hills but have to run it hard to do it.Noisey though and rides ruff for trips.

Did you also remember to clear off all the other windows, mirrors and lights :-) You're not one of those igloo drivers are you?

.

Yeah once I got out of the driveway, I can't stand people that don't clean off their cars. Oh yeah I did clean up all the snow that I left in the street too...

Me and my wife are looking to get a Escape in may when our focus is paid off, most likly 4 banger and AWD depending on whats avalible. I really like the body style of the fusion and the new focus there are so many chocies Ford has so many nice cars to choose from nowadays.

I'm not sure what all years this applies to but I think it's only 05-06. My uncle has an '05 awd v6 and was having starting trouble. Finally it died the other day and we pulled the codes. All of the coils had fault codes. Did some research and Ford used spark plugs that create radio interference with the coils and ecu (coil driver portion) which over time burns them up. So he is in for new plugs, coils and ecu. Ford does not have a recall on this but does have a TSB that came out a few years ago. I think they had an 80K warranty and most go just after that. There was gobs of info all over the net on this so it must be a pretty common problem.

I had a 2001 6cly and did not like it felt like a go cart did not ride very good either so I traded it for a expedition. this was in 03 or 04 My parents bought it brand new and I bought it off them. 5k seems alittle high price I think and it has high miles I would look for a different one or even some thing else just my opinion

Interesting. This is the first I'd heard of that. It sounds like you might be able to prevent it by putting different plugs in it.

I used to detail cars at a Ford dealership, and drove those escapes a lot. The news ones drive nice, the older ones were a bit bumpy as someone said. I rarely saw any in the shop with serious problems.

You do have to take the upper intake off to get to three of the plugs on the sixes, but if you need to change the plugs, chances are you're due for a new gasket anyway. One of the techs there told me its a reusable gasket so if youre just checking the plugs you don't really need a new one
