Should I fix up my 93 or look for a newer third gen? I've been told that my drivetrain combo is somewhat rare (2wd, 4.0, 5spd). There is some rust on the truck and it has about 208k on the clock. But it runs like a top, could just use a new IAC and maybe a transmission rebuild (the tranny is kinda hard to shift into 1st sometimes). But I was just looking at leveling out the truck and putting 31s on it and fixing up the body so there is no rust. The truck is capable of 21 MPG and I was thinking I should be able to keep the MPGs at around 16-18 with 31's and the correct gearing. So should I just convince my dad to let me really fix this truck up or get a newer one? The truck is almost 20yrs old. Is is really worth it? I'm at a loss here guys. Whatcha guys think? Kinda throwing ideas around, so any ideas you guys might have would be great.

I drive a '96 4.0 2WD 5spd with 219,450 miles on it. Motor runs like its friggin new.. still has factory perfect compression on all cylinders.

If I were you, I'd keep it. Patch up the rust spots and call it good, and drive the thing for another 200k+ :icon_thumby:

btw... what gears do you have in the rear? I have the 3.08's and love it. In-town mileage sucks (roughly 13mpg) but on the highway I often get 24-29mpg :icon_surprised:

If it's hard to shift in first gear, I certainly would not be putting on larger tires.:icon_rofl:

Probably just worn synchronizers.

@ Twizzler I have 3.08 gears as well. But my driving consists of mixed.
@ OilPatch Imma be rebuilding the tranny here soon, don't worry about that.
