What do you guys think about these?

Whats a couple inches?

That gear set is also for an 8.8 inch rear end. The carrier and locker are for a 31 spline unit.

Unless you have upgraded to a 31 spline 8.8 from an explorer these will not work for you.

You should have a 28 spline 7.5 inch rear end (stock).

Not a bad deal... But yeah, what size are you thinking?

I'm currently stock 26" was thinking about going to 28" or 29". Also I'm debating how to do a suspension lift and how high to go.

I ran 235 70 15 tires with 3.73 gears and liked that combo, it was better than the 195 75 14 and 3.08 gears... 4.56 gears would be overkill for 28" tires...

What are you guys pushing those with, I have a 2.3L I want to go at least to 4.10.

I run 235/75/15 tires (28.9") in the summer, on a 1997 they will fit ok with no lift, I have the 4.10 axle and the 2.3L and it is drivable/liveable for me as long as I can get moving before starting up a hill. On flat ground or interstate (65mph) it is about right. If I was mostly in town or in hill country I would want the 4.56

That is a really good deal and you could definately get your money back if you wanted too.

It would also give you an excuse to upgrade to a 31 spline exploder axle.

I say do it, and if its too low, try some 30" tires or 31s.

That's what I was thinking to, I'm looking into lift options. I'm not concerned about lifting the rear end. I accustomed to driving chevy's with front leaf springs and am not used to the front end on the rangers.

until the last month, my truck was the plain ol 2.3

the 235 70 15 was not that much fun to get going with the 3.08 gears, but were just fine, about normal with the 3.73's. I've been driving for the last 2 years with 31's and 4.10's, 3000rpm in 4th gear at 55mph, about 2200rpm in 5th, about the same as the 3.73's were with the 235's
