3rd year pipefitter/welder apprentice working at Canadian Natural's Horizon Oil Sands Project In Northern Alberta.
CNRL eh, very nice
Atm i'm in school for environmental technologies, i'm in my final year and 4 final months until graduation, I'll be more than likely working at Syncrude Canada Ltd. (another oil sands project in Northern Alberta) heh just out of curiosity what is this fitter friday you american boys are talking about? Is it like a day of sort of deal?
Up here in the oilsands theres alot of work schedules people can work. I know most people in the business end of it (engineers, computer staff etc) work 5 days a week, 8 hour days (5, 8's) Next for trades people SOME work 4 days a week, and 10 hour days and get friday off (4,10s) some heavy equipment operators run on a 6 day on 6 day off cycle, 6 days for 12 hours, and some operators do 24 days 4 days off, etc.. 11 and 3 is another big one. So in regards to getting overtime up here in Alberta, there's plenty of opportunity for it. There is so much work up here right now its not even funny. The town i'm living in and where i have lived for 12+ years has been a victim of unforseen growth, it's almost disgusting, in 96 the pop was 50,000 or so and now it's just over 100,000. Not to mention the average person (assuming they are doing some sort of trade or technical diploma or something) makes atleast 25 bucks an hour.
Welders and pipefitters up here i believe is still the highest paying job, i think a journeyman welder makes 40+ an hour. Journeyman anything makes alteast 40 i'm sure.
Up here it's not unusual to see kids in their 20s driving escalades and huge super duties and other expensive vehicles because people just make so much fucking money hehe
