What Did Your Ranger Get For Christmas?

After 6 years sitting out in hail alley, mine too got a spot indoors too :)

Wasn't really a christmas gift, but the USPS gal dropped off my latest package on christmas eve, so I have that....

What did my Ranger get for Christmas?

Neglected.

But it is sitting in a garage that maintains 55 degrees. First time for that since 2008

Don't let it get too comfortable or it won't want to go outside anymore.

For Christmas my 99 Ranger got my time and temporarily squatted. I guess it'll be getting an exhaust for Christmas, but the shop doesn't reopen until Monday. In preparation for the work, over the last several days I installed Magnaflow cat pipes and I did an axle flip. The temporary squatted stance is to ensure that when they run pipes, they allow clearance for future plans to lower the truck. If I get what I want it'll be an inch or two higher than it currently is, but if it clears now it'll clear then.

Over the last couple of days I also fitted an aftermarket Double Din android auto capable headunit to radio bezel. That is destined for dad's Ranger, but we need to get mine out of his shop so we can pull his in and install it, along with fixing rear window leak. So I guess that's his Ranger's christmas present, but it'll take a few more days to get installed.

(y) Those seem to be an excellent winch from all the abuse that the YouTubers give them. I was at the local HFlast thursday getting a winch myself, just not that size. Saw several guys walk up asking about the Synthetic 12000lb, but all they had on the shelf/floor were steel cable. I'm guessing that they must have had some of the synthetic inb the back because I saw one of the guys leaving with a different box. I was after the 3500lb myself for mounting on my ATV. Won't be ready to install it for a while, but couldn't beat the sale that day. Like $55 off normal price. I wish it has the synthetic rope, but it'll probably get swapped out later and still be cheaper than normal price.

Was tempted to get a 9k or 12k also but just couldn't justify it. Only vehicle I have set up for a winch is the F-100 and it's got an 8274 on it that hasn't even had a cable spooled on in 30 years. If it keeps a winch the 8274 will get restored and left in place. I've got a 5k on a hitch mount to use with my flat bed trailer, but I've used it once in the last 5 years. Just couldn't justify buying another.

Don’t need to, she’s gonna jump out on her own while attached to a certified skydiver.
Her brother started doing it last year and she wants to try.
I’ll take a pass since I’m a little afraid of the landing with two new knees.

I'm with you on that and I've still got my good OEM knees. I'd kind of like to keep my good OEM knees too. I'll fly in a small plane, but got no interest in jumping out.

Tweecer RT 🙂

Now I need to get either a cheapo laptop to run the tuning software.. orrrr figure out how to get said software to operate on Linux.. probably go the laptop route..

WINE - Windows on Linux... good luck getting the USB to pipe through to the virtual machine...

Yeah after looking at how much cheapo refurb laptops cost off Amazon.. definitely just gonna go that route. Under 200 bucks so 🤷🏻‍♀️ that's not too bad. Probably be the only thing I use the laptop for too so lol.. I guess I could use it for easier video editing and stuff too

A laptop is always handy to have when traveling too. It being a cheap refurb more of a bonus if it breaks. Not much lost then. Just keep important stuff on a separate thumb drive or plug in hard drive.

Not really for the Ranger but I got a 21" propane fire pit. Will be great for those cold mornings overlanding. When you don't want to build a fire just for a few. Then have to put it out before you go.

That should be entertaining.

“Hey, guys. Did y’all see that flash of light about an hour before sunrise this morning?”

Jim; “Yeah. Something sure lit up the sky.”
Justin;”Where’s Robbie’s tent? In fact, where’s Robbie?”

….

Im thinking of buying another, haven’t gone to check it out but theres a 93 shortbed (that someone on trs has) for sale in ohio and I found a flareside bed. I’ve always wanted a flareside. If the frame is good I just might bite, everything else is easily rebuildable. Its a 2.3/manual, looks to have cherokee rims. Will paint the bed black, source another 4.10, maybe a cam. Even though I have trailers its kind of a pain at times with parking in town if I go for something.

I haven't had a computer in over a decade lol. I think the best part about having one again, apart from tuning of course... Will just be having another way to get online to pay my bills. Completely broke my phone earlier this year and barely got a new one just in time to pay the bronco payment and shit... Big relief that was.

Stupid digital age 😑 I don't even have a checkbook haha.

He's warm somewhere haha

You're gonna need a bigger truck...
I know. Hopefully I'm doing some rework to my setup. With the awning. No need to carry a canopy. Propane pit will double as a grill. With the little grill I have. May try and find one like you guys use for the pizza. Mine is one of the step style grills. I found some things about my setup I need to address before the 2025 trip.
