it's all 3/16 steel. what started as a simple stand now weighs way too much

Not a good idea. I thought of the same thing but after a bit of research realized that long pointed objects coming loose at high speeds can leave you looking like a porcupine got you. There are pictures on the web if you care to do your own research. Apparently the metal will weaken after a number of hits on objects and eventually will break off.

We had a customer that had one of the heads with the bolt on replaceable plastic blades. Apparently he was tired of buying blades so he upgraded it and was running eye lag bolts instead.

We tried to politely convey how stupid of an idea this was and he didn't come back.
