Cleaned the gutters out. Removed a fair sized maple sampling that was thriving on the dead and decaying leaves of its parents...

Not a good idea. I thought of the same thing but after a bit of research realized that long pointed objects coming loose at high speeds can leave you looking like a porcupine got you. There are pictures on the web if you care to do your own research. Apparently the metal will weaken after a number of hits on objects and eventually will break off.
Thing is, I have a lot of fence around my back yard since we have a greyhound and you can't tie them out or put them on a run. If they see something, their DNA tells them to chase it and they accelerate hard enough that if they hit the end of a chain or run they can break their neck.

True, greyhounds operate kind of like a light switch. Either 100 mph or asleep, there's not much in between.
