When I fixed the furnace under the house, I pulled out some junk I had just left there a few years ago when I had to go under when I was crippled and sick, so I just did a little cleanup.
One item was a little condensate pump, one of those things about the size of a shoebox with a tiny motor on top of it. I had replaced it a while ago. Well, I took it apart, and the motor shaft had simply pulled out of the impeller. I put a little E6000 on it and put it back together and packed it away in the shed of miracles.
I was cleaning off the workbench to get ready to pull the toolbox off the Road Ranger to replace the gas pump, The little spherical vacuum reservoir from the AC system was sitting there. The previous owner had misplaced it, and the belt and pulley cut a hole in the side of it.
I had already replaced it with a Lincoln soup can reservoir, but I figured I’d give this a shot with some shade tree plastic welding. I don’t have a plastic welder, I just use a little portable butane torch, and a flat end screwdriver. I tried zip ties, and they weren’t the right plastic, try the soft plastic part from who knows what, and that didn’t work, and then I took the cap off an old vitamin bottle. Bingo!
I cut the cap in strips on the band saw, and then just started working it in.
I fixed a half dozen other things like that and put them all where they belonged in the SOM, something I’ve been very bad about since I was hurt and sick. Baby steps, but it’s coming together.
I cleaned out the toolbox on the Road Ranger to get ready to pull it to access the fuel pump. I emptied all the junk, I took the sliding tray out, I took the fire extinguisher off the driver side, and then I pulled the battery and the battery mount out of there. If you go back in my build thread, I had cut out the bottom of that box when I remove the bed and placed it behind the cab because I had to have the fill neck run through it.
Then I had ann epiphany. I don’t think I’m going to pull the box, I think I’m just going to cut a bigger hole in the bottom since it’s already cut to run the fill neck. That will save me having to remove a lot of the wiring I did and maybe I don’t have to pull the headache rack, which is bolted to the frame where the bed used to bolt to the frame. We’ll find out tomorrow. My only concern now is that, after I cut the hole, am I going be able to wiggle that pump around at the right angle to get it out and back in?
Add cut it short today, I’m taking the cute little brunette out for a cocktail for Valentine’s Day. If you guys haven’t done something yet, just scratch something up on a piece of paper and fold it over and say something nice.
