Went to the junkyard.

They're 01 Mustang seats on 90 B2 tracks. Gotta do a little work to get the tracks bolted flat to the seat bases. Tap 2 holes and get longer bolts and spacers for 4. They aren't as gray or discolored as that picture makes them look. Anybody ever took seats to the carwash to clean them? They aren't bad, I'd just like to do everything I can to get them clean before I put them in.

I'm leaning in that direction for the 99. I have a set of FlowFits (think mid 80s Saleen) that will be going in temporarily, but those are destined for my 85 Ranger. I want the Recaro Style Topline that they put in the Saleen Explorers, but they are were 4K+ for a set new and discontinued, and hard to find used at all. Since those are unavailable/unaffordable/impractical, I'll probably go for a gen or two newer Mustang seats.


So today I mostly suffered from sinus issues. When that eased up for a bit I dropped the F-250 at mom's house. BIL picked it up and drove it to work tonight, so aside from the paperwork it is practically gone.

I worked. Then, I did laundry. That means loading up the truck to drive two towns over where there's a laundromat that isn't trying to act like the cost of rent should equal the cost of washing your clothes. Finished the day playing some outdated video games that are new to me, then made a mista- uh, got a Whataburger. Now I'm browsing a cool website that has something to do with a manufacturer-specific mid sized pickup truck you guys would probably like, way beyond your bedtime.

so yesterday I ordered a few things for the shop... one is two narrow tool boxes to make a desk out of... I wanted something with drawers, most of my ideas were expensive but amazon has some 15" wide by 17" deep and 35" tall boxes for $155 each... they'll be here next friday...

I also ordered a ceiling fan for the shop to help the heat be more efficient... the gradient is pretty serious and uneven... not great in the summer either... it was like $40 off of a 6' 8 blade fan with remote control and 5 speeds with reverse, $120... Now I need to figure out how to mount it and how high, I'm leaning toward being above the bottom boards of the trusses, my first idea isn't going to work with where I put the area for the lift posts to be... That should be here tomorrow so I can work on that plan...

Tonight I dug into the camper to figure out where the broken aluminum welds are... They're under the window behind the cab which is good and bad... no matter what it is annoying but removing a 18" tall by 5' wide chunk is less bad than the whole side like last time...

You mean a “do it yourself” car wash with the spray wand? I’ve got one of the $80 harbor freight pressure washers (love it).

When I took the seats out of the 93 to put in the 87, they were pretty grimy. I bathed them, literally soaked them, in bleach, and let them sit for a few hours. I sprayed that off and then did the same thing with pretty concentrated dish detergent. Then I used degreaser which really didn’t add much, and then I did it with dish detergent again.

The only thing you have to be careful of with the pressure washer is you can actually damage the surface of the fabric if you get too close with concentrated high high pressure. But a pressure washer is the way to go cause it literally forces whatever out of all the little nooks and crannies. It took three days for the things to dry in the summer, and my window still fogged up for a couple days after I put them in. Worth every minute, though.

My only other thought that you may want to check before you put the seats in, is that the Ranger seats and pick up truck seats in general are very thin from the belly to the back of them, especially if you’ve got a short cab. Most car seats are thicker with more springs and more foam. The reason I swapped the seats in the 87, is because my tummy was literally rubbing on the wheel. They were car seat seats.

I've either used a portable rug scrubber or one with a hose to clean seats. I know you used to be able to rent them, but I'm not sure if that is still a thing anymore.

You can rent a rug shampooer at Home Depot that also has a hose and a hand unit with it. I’ve used it around the house, but never used it on a car, but of course it would work fine.
