What did YOU do today?

Repaired the 30A 240V electrical supply wire to my place ( RV ). Its a temporary wire that was buried about 6" because of traffic. The other tenant was clearing snow and severed it where frost had pushed it to the surface. Luckily I was able to pull enough to join the 2 ends in a junction box. Used lots of grease meant for wiring because this is not protected from the weather. Screwed the box to a 2x6 and then another 2x6 on top. Then made sure that there is a post indicating where the box is as well as caution tape showing where the wire isn't buried.

while rummaging around under the work bench I came across these.
been there for at least 30, maybe 35 years. were on the shelf with 460/429 parts. that never made it into a '78 Bronco

Dang... that's the pre oxygen sensor safe red stuff. I always hated that crap.

Mostly swore about the weather.

3 Below when I got to work 🙄 already sick and tired of winter. Pretty sure the news was saying this has (so far) been the coldest December on record up here in the past 2 decades.. and I believe it.

As long as we don't have a 2 week stretch of 10 to 20 below zero like we did last winter... I'll be happy.

I hope everyone's been enjoying life and had a quality Thanksgiving!

Looked at my body mounts and tried to disassemble one. An upcoming major project is going to involve new cab mount bushings and 1" spacers. I had heard these things are a pain to disassemble. And, even without severe rust, they are a PITA. So, I invented a tool to pull them apart. Tech article / How-to coming soon.

Re-purposed/ modified an old bed mounting bolt.

Made a puller body.

Assembled, add a wrench to hold the bottom nut and ready to use next time I get a chance.

At lunch I picked up a box of wall texture, tonight my brother came over and we painted the walls in the shop office then sprayed on texture on the walls and ceiling, what a mess but it's done (I masked the complete floor yesterday so it's good there...). Tomorrow or Thursday night I should be able to paint the walls and ceiling and be done with that portion, then baseboards and I'll be able to start moving stuff in! That'll be nice.

Not a whole lot tonight but I did paint the edges of the shop office, 2" brush takes a while with one person... Tomorrow night will be with a roller, should go way faster...

Bled money. 2 new batteries for the superduty and ordered a new tire for the trailer. Also looked at an Explorer as an engine donor. But price was too high.

Several hours after replacing the batteries, one was down to less that 11volts. Other one is still almost 12.6volts. No wander it wouldn't start in cold temps.

Nice split forming at the edge of the steel belts on this trailer tire. I need to replace the other 4. They're all the same age.

It warmed up a little so cleaned out the chicken house, sure doesn’t stay clean long when its cold & 15 birds stay in the building all the time. only takes 2 trips with the gator though, its a lot easier than the lawn deere & dump trailer. Didnt even put the tire chains on it, Doubt it leaves the garage until spring. Read about putting a pvc pipe over the bottom edge of the 3-point blade so you dont tear up a gravel driveway during snow removal. Might try that tomorrow, possible snow returning soon, be a good chance to try it out at my parents drive. (mine is asphalt) Already have some 3” & 4” pvc on hand, not much else to do this time of year.

Got the painting in the shop office done tonight, so stinky... It looks decent but took a lot of paint, I think around 2 gallons? Not that it was expensive (re-store, $10 for about 3 gallons in a 5 gallon bucket) just a lot of reloading the roller... and now I'm down to about a quart... Screwed the lights back up but not all the way home since the paint was still drying, but did pull up all of the masking and located all the plates for the outlets and light switch so that's ready for tomorrow!
