Well, I dragged all of the rest of the Hawthorn tree I chopped down with Lisa’s help awhile back down to the big burn pile, trimmed and stacked it all on the pile. If you don’t know those trees, be thankful. They are covered in spikes up to 2” long that are sharp and hard enough to pierce a thick split cowhide glove. They will also go through boots and tires.
Took longer than I expected and the burn pile now needs burned before adding more. Figured I’d fire up the lawn tractor and get it all mowed before another week of rain, but halfway through my third lap around the property I lost steering. Apparently it’s not the first time the linkage has given out because there is no link in my spare parts from a tractor we scrapped but everything else is there. I think I’m going to modify it to use rod ends. Of course that’s not a quick fix because I don’t have the parts. I don’t see any easy temporary fix. Wish I had a finish mower or even a working brush hog for the farm tractor now.
