What did YOU do today?

Went to try out my lift for the first time and the arms wouldn't extend. Rusted in place... So spent the afternoon with a sledge and wire wheel. Cleaned and greased with some gear oil mixed in. Will try tomorrow....

Been busy with my long holiday. No rest for me.

Steering box ready for paint

I bought lots of fireworks, too.

Todays was final sanding of the interior of the drawer box before I wax it with parafin was and install the deck.

The parts needed to do maintenance and preventative maintenance on the 2019 were ordered as well.

It was also cheaper to throw in oil and a filter for the Escape with the order than to do a local oil package deal. With the way the thing gets run, it's about due for an oil change already. A profession in home healthcare is murder on personal vehicles and those in it don't get compensated enough for the amount of driving they have to do.

Got the ranger “egg trailer” upgraded & set out, new outside rated digital controlled fridge & a attic fan with temperature switch installed. 2 days of testing in 90 degree weather and it stayed under 45.

The pump and the hose for the clothes washer are here. So, I guess ai know what I'm doing tomorrow. Today is a full schedule of graduation and Independence Day parties that I was already obligated to go to.

Granddaughter's 8th birthday party.
My ex-wife was there. I can still joke with the current Mrs. O that she is half the woman that my ex-wife is.

The washer is fixed. I might wash a vehicle or two after the sun gets behind the trees.

Friday I got the camper on the truck and in the driveway so the wife could get things situated. Yesterday I got the boat in the shop driveway so I could do some final things to it before the trip, we also went to town to get a new mattress for the camper, old one was worn out. Then I did some mowing for a few hours with the tractor in the back.

Today I got the engine box on the boat and a bungee cord holding it to the back (not a permanent solution, I have things to do for the final setup). Got some more stuff packed in the boat including some cut up 2x4's for firewood (pallet wood from work from some crates, I have around 400 38" long 2x4's, I pulled the staples before I cut them into thirds). Then I started tinkering with the new to me tractor, so far fixed the voltage regulator, turns out there was a welded contact on one of the relays so I cleaned that up and it doesn't drain the battery anymore, I also put on the battery tray and put a battery on it then fixed some of the dents in the front so I could look at the front of the radiator. Still wouldn't start, tried some carb cleaner in the intake then tried propane but I think the oil bath air cleaner makes that harder... I'll get it sometime...

After spending a day trying to figure out why my mom's phone number was giving me a message that it was out of service, I found out that a fire caused by fireworks spread into the backyard and took out the power and phone lines, and two of the neighbors lost their homes and pets. My mom's house is OK, but the backyard was burnt. I will not be able to get down there until next weekend to see the damage.

The Ranger was still detailed up from yesterday's family event so I took it to a car cruise.
I have my rep to protect and cannot arrive at a family gathering in a dirty vehicle.
Mostly classics and muscle cars but there were a few late models there.

Well, I dragged all of the rest of the Hawthorn tree I chopped down with Lisa’s help awhile back down to the big burn pile, trimmed and stacked it all on the pile. If you don’t know those trees, be thankful. They are covered in spikes up to 2” long that are sharp and hard enough to pierce a thick split cowhide glove. They will also go through boots and tires.

Took longer than I expected and the burn pile now needs burned before adding more. Figured I’d fire up the lawn tractor and get it all mowed before another week of rain, but halfway through my third lap around the property I lost steering. Apparently it’s not the first time the linkage has given out because there is no link in my spare parts from a tractor we scrapped but everything else is there. I think I’m going to modify it to use rod ends. Of course that’s not a quick fix because I don’t have the parts. I don’t see any easy temporary fix. Wish I had a finish mower or even a working brush hog for the farm tractor now.

The Escape and 2019 both got a bath.

On my riding mower I have the same issue and still haven't gotten a replacement (it's like $40), I've just hammered the end over more and taken a center punch and closed over the hole more...

Yesterday I used my finish mower on the tractor, it's nice but they're dumb expensive and touchy, I of course got mine used years ago but it plugs up pretty easy so I have to go slow and it only has one belt which at tractor power levels is easy to break...

Mine uses a dumb clip to hold it together because the socket for the ball isn’t deep enough because I had that thought. The special clip is who knows where. I’m done with this crap, it’s getting rod ends. If I had money I’d be trying to do hydro steering. Never liked how hard this is to steer.

I honestly wouldn’t use a finish mower on the farm tractor much so it would have to be a screaming deal for me to get one. I could really use a 3-point brush hog. I have a pull-behind brush hog that needs work. I’d also like a sickle bar mower that can be run at angles for bank trimming.

I did get everything freed up and working. Maybe lift a car tomorrow.
