What did YOU do today?

I managed to squeeze in some time to finish the mount for the first aid kit and mounted the other one that has been with the 2019 for a while to the passenger side head rest. It's amazing how much stuff you can get done with the girlfriend's P.O.S. Nissan is no longer around to keep breaking down.

Eff those Nissans, lol

Soo…

I got woken up to no water because the water system is acting up again.

Decide that I’m tired of roasting in the Choptop when it’s rainy and I can’t open it up, so I pulled it over to my shed and wrestled the big tank of CO2 out so I could pressure test the system without filling it. Turns out that tank is empty.

Back over to the house and get out my medium CO2 tank (one of the two tanks I have for kegs of beer). Hook it up, push 45 psi into it on the low side and start spraying soapy water around. Guess where my leak is? Yup, the pump. Right out of the middle of the pump. Fudge.

New pump will be in by 8am tomorrow.

While I was in the garage calling about the pump, it started raining. The rain that wasn’t supposed to be here until maybe 10 pm. Of course I still had stuff out from working on the Choptop.

Clean that up.

Message my friends and find out that the trail ride at JeepFest starts at 7am. Problem is registration closed at like 2 or something dumb today and doesn’t start until 8am tomorrow. So I’m out of luck for riding along. Of course if it’s raining they cancel the ride and it might be raining.

Rain stops so I go to mess with the canvas on the Choptop and it starts raining again. It’s been on and off rain since. Looking at the radar is useless. All of the rain blobs that have hit us so far have formed over our heads according to radar.

Good news is I can get some snaps off my buddy and I think I can rig up the canvas to cover the whole back of the Choptop.

Since the day isn’t over, stay tuned for any more shenanigans…

Got the snaps, my buddy hooked me right up. Getting the canvas figured. Mind you I’m making something work that was intended for a boat, not a Bronco II, but it’s coming along. I have some temporary stuff propping it up in the pictures. Working on making some temporarily permanent props for it that will pull most of the slack out.

So far after I got home I've checked that my new 5'x9' piece of plywood matched the one I pulled out of the boat and it sure does... then I pulled out the 4x8 sheet and marked/cut out the part for the nose section, next is to taper the sides like the previous one was and cut the back corner pieces. The mower clutch showed up so I'll probably put that on while I have daylight. When I paint the plywood tomorrow I'll have some fairly significant drying windows that I'll use to mow most likely...

Mower clutch showed up, and boy that's an easy swap... one bolt and one wire connection... and it was definitely the issue with the mower, top bearing was screwed... and it was seized solid. Put that on, did 1/10 of the recommended break in then mowed for 45 minutes... so far so good, it holds stronger than it has in a long time just because the belt is tighter from being lined up :)

Anywho after that I finished fitting that nose piece of plywood and was tired of fighting off mosquitoes so I called it... will get up in the morning and do some sanding and blowing off then paint the two big pieces of wood tomorrow morning. Hopefully I'll be able to flip them by afternoon so I can paint the bottom. Somewhere in there I need to mark where the new through hull fittings for the exhaust will go, I have some 4" irrigation pipe I'll mark the holes around the current 3" exhaust then cut the holes out.

Did some work on the 2019 (pictures posted), modified the rafter storage rack for a better fit of the rafters, and I sit and wait for a call that may not come today to cover some aircraft launches. It depends on if they get to order to go or not.

The cats kept pestering me to get up early this morning and were persistent. It was like there was something important they wanted to tell me. So, I got up thinking maybe I forgot to feed them last night. As I walked into the kitchen all three cats stopped. As I was wondering why they didn't run to their food bowls I noticed a dead scorpion in the middle of the kitchen floor. I swept it up and disposed of it in the trash. After about 30 minutes the cats were back to normal.

Sometimes I really wonder about cats. They're fearless hunters, but terrified of a 1.5" dead scorpion.

I managed to find a little bit of time to fenangle a mount for a waterproof first aid kit out of some left over brackets from one of the awnings. It still needs some fine tuning but it's now mounted to the rack.

What did you use for a first aid kit?

The only thing I have to add is a CAT tourniquet. It will go where the flashlight and glow stick is currently stored. I have head lamps. So a flashlight is not needed and is more cumbersome to use, especially when you need both hands to do first aid.

To mount it, I use some left over L brackets from one of the awnings to run through the molle and bolted it to the bed rack. Eye bolts keep it from sliding off to the front and provide anchor points to lace the kit in with 550 cord. The kit is attached to the molle with velcro, which makes it nice to rip off fast, when needed, but I imagine branches and brush could do the same. So the 550 cord lashes it in and is secured with a trucker's hitch for fast unlacing and detachment.

I started with some plumbing at work. Had lunch with Brittney while the glue dried. Killed a little more time for it dry before testing it. Then decided to use the tools at work to fix my exhaust leak while I was there on a Saturday. It went well. More details in my thread.

Local street fair this weekend, went to the parade tonight, lasted all if 15 min! storms last night cancelled the entertainment. (80’s cover band) tonight was a death metal group- hard pass. Ordered some eastwood encapsulator 1qt for the other 8N hood, Ive used por-15 before and though Ive been happy with it I wanted to see how eastwood products performed. Put my eggs for sale sign out, up to 9 dozen on hand. Some weeks I have a surplus & others I have a stockpile. maybe retail costs have dropped again? mine are still a good deal at $3/dzn but if youre at the store anyways and it aint a bad price I guess some people just go ahead & get em there. One week I was 11 dozen behind, One order was for 4 dozen alone. Plus so many have gotten into chickens that there are several around me that are selling, if I was the only one in a 5 mile radius Id probably be doing better. Saw my escape is still wearing excessively on the inside of the left front even with more camber put in, guess I need to check the toe in. I may give up on the do-it-myself & take it somewhere for a alignment.

That's a nice looking kit. I have been toying around with putting something like that in a packout box for easy access. I see milwaukee sells kits they make but they're more jobsite oriented and come with large quantities of super basic stuff like ointment and bandaids.

The kit you linked looks very complete (other than what you've mentioned) and one couldn't piece a kit like that together for that price. How's the quality of the supplies included?

Over all, it seems to have pretty decent supplies in it and was thought out pretty well. It's definitely better than the one I have strapped to the back of the passenger seat head rest, which is more basic and not as good quality.

I was running into the same issue when looking for a waterproof kit. Most of them are job site oriented and are just too big for where I have room to put it.

Today got a bit sideways just as I was starting to sand the second side of the front floor section, my brother called for help burying one of my mom's llamas... no backhoe so we improvised with a ripper on one tractor then the 6' bucket on another to get the first half done... then manual. Then while over there I put the new to us seats in her Fiesta, that was a big hit and brought her mood up (had to put her cat down last Saturday so it's been a week...).

Anywho, after I got home I did get two coats of paint on the top side of the boat decking, I'll probably just do one coat on the bottom but we'll see how much paint I have...
