What did YOU do today?

Went back out and cleaned up the shop some and wanted to get something small done... pulled the little Homelite XL top handle chainsaw out I got when I got the drill press and cleaned it up a bit, looked decent enough but blew everything out with air. I wanted to take the carb apart just for good measure but it's kinda a pain to get them out since you have to pull the engine out of the housing. Reassembled, added a little fuel with the bar off and to my surprise it started right up and after a couple minutes ran like a top... then cleaned up the bar and sharpened the chain, don't feel too bad about paying $20 for it now, it's even a newer model with electronic ignition instead of point and condenser... not that it's hard to swap...

Then since that went smooth I turned to the gas drill I got at the same time, pulled the carb apart and found no air filter and the fuel pressure regulator diaphragm was hard as a rock so I pulled one out of stock and put it in, also ran like a top. It's a neat thing, didn't know they were reversible... wish I had the chuck key for it, I'll dig through my stash if I can find them... I will likely use this thing occasionally just because I have it, I mean why use electricity when you can use gasoline?

Helped @lil_Blue_Ford clean up his property. If weather allows, I’ll back there tomorrow.
Many thanks for that!

Much progress was made despite a light rain all day. Lot of brush and trees got trimmed, a lot of stuff opened up to where I can mow it now and not fight brush, stuff got cleaned up, had one bonfire going most of the day. Really starting to look like something, you can see the creek now instead of a ton of brush.

Also, my buddy Thomas and my neighbor Jerry managed to get my Ferguson TO-20 tractor running and doing tractor things, so that’s a huge win. I drove it around a little yesterday, now I have to figure out what to use it for. Both the brush hog and back blade that I have for it need repairs. I may see about borrowing a brush hog off a family friend for the time being. Feels like a huge win to have the property in better shape than ever and have the Fergie running.

I added some paracord & a couple of pulleys in the chicken house, now I can raise/lower the trap door from inside the feed/supply area instead of walking clear through the bird area.

I’ve read where some have had a timer on the door that lets them out. The trick is to set it at the right times and you’ll need an electric motor either running off a battery or have electric run to the coop.

The latter option might not be practical since yours to built to be movable.

I don't remember how bad your brush hog was, but they're dead simple, if the frame is attached to the gearbox, the PTO shaft spins and nothing important hits anything else important I'd just run it... one of my friends has one that the lower seal is SHOT, he filled the gear box with corn head grease and just tops it off as needed... Mine needs some patches in the top plate but it works fine... my 5' finish mower had an idler explode a couple weeks ago, fixed that and in the process two of the 3 carriers leaked water... put a handful of pumps of grease in them and worked fine until it spit the damaged belt out the front... Unless the stump jumper is bent on a brush hog where the blades hit the frame I'd probably run it...

I actually do have power going to it through a heavy duty extension cord from the garage. I might get a solar activated one next year.

So, my brush hog is an antique drawbar pull 5’ unit. I haven’t tore into it yet. The driveshaft is broken and the slip joint stuck. The gearbox turns slightly then comes to a hard stop, both directions. And when I say slightly, I mean less than 1/4” of travel. There’s some welding repairs that should probably be done to the deck, the height bar thing is missing, the long bar that seems to provide some sort of leveling/floatation to the deck is bent, the tires are junk and the rims don’t look any better. Supposedly my neighbor has everything I need to fix it, we’ll just have to get together and get it done. I think I really need a 3-point hitch brush hog for my property though, there’s really not a lot of room to run a drag behind I’m thinking. But I got it cheap and if I can get it working, I can always sell or trade it for a different one.

The other thing I have is a 7’ back blade. It needs some welding and stuff, but it’s really not in terrible shape. This stuff is all new to me, I have very little seat time on a tractor bigger than a lawn tractor. The only tractor equipment I’ve actually run has been a loader and a backhoe on modern CUT tractors and that was pretty minimal seat time on those, like no more than 15-20 minutes. Twice. Gonna be a learning experience for sure.

Yesterday was more property clean-up with @sgtsandman , we got a few other areas cleaned up and squared away. Fired up the Fergie and took it for a ride around the yard a bit. My promised help showed up around 6 pm so they really weren’t much help. Big, big thanks to @sgtsandman for sticking it out the whole rainy weekend. Yes, yesterday was more rain. I’m really happy with the tractor finally running and the property looking a lot better. When I went over there yesterday morning and got to stand there and look at the creek that I’ve never really seen from my property because of all the brush and scrub trees on the bank, it was beautiful. Can’t thank those who showed and helped enough. Still a ton of stuff that needs done, but a lot of stuff got opened up and cleaned up which is pretty awesome.

A bunch of little things. Oil, filters, etc for the three vehicles along with ordering some things to address what is wrong with the cap on the 2019. Picked up licenses for deer hunting. And some more painting of the trailer.

Recovering from the last two days was the name of today’s game, lol

Took our 11 month old 173lb St.Bernard to the vet to get neutered. The vet didn't have a cone of shame big enough to fit him so now we need to watch him and stop him from licking the incision. He is doing OK with it but does go after it from time to time.

He is one big dog. Even the vet said he's going to be a 200 lb dog once he fills out.
