What did YOU do today?

Nice bends! I can never seem to get them looking that good. Are you using steel or nicop?
Thank you! First time with brake lines.
Got the coil from AutoZ. In part, the description reads: "...a double-wall, low carbon steel, copper brazed tubing..."
It was inexpensive and will probably outlast me, so I went with it. Double-flaring is a bit testy, but cut long and keep at it till you get it right :p
The bends are accomplished with a simple hand tool you see in the image.
Again, thanks for the compliment.

Sounds like steel, probably with a corrosion prevention coating. Good strong material that lasts a long time, but can be difficult to bend.

I'm good with flaring, just have trouble with the bending. I'll have another chance to practice in the future. The F-100 is going to need them sooner than later, fortunately it doesn't get driven a lot.

Since ive had the thread off topic, I'll get back on topic.

Today I worked a half day, visited a doctor, went legally blind for a few hours, and made a preliminary gameplan or schedule for the upcoming V8 swap. First half at work went as usual. Second half was my 8 week treatment for DME, AKA the eye injections. The blindness was a side affect of the treatment. Legally blind might be an exageration, I could see enough to walk out of the office, but not well enough to do much else.

Discussing upcoming appointments between dad's cancer stuff (chemo is finished!) and my next treatment. Looks like I'm going to be off work for a federal holiday on February 19th. I have 26 days of leave I have to use this year. I think 4 of those days are going to be used in conjunction with the holiday, and I'm going to drag the truck and donor into dad's shop and try to get it done. Between now and that week I need to finish stripping (rear axle and receiver hitch) an old parts truck andhaul it off. Also need to review the swap material and make sure I have all the forseeable components on hand for the swap. More on that in a thread to be posted in swap section in the coming days.

The catch is going to be on how dad feels between now and then. I'll need to do most of the swap solo. Dad is going to try to help and there will be a few times I need an extra hand. If he's still hurting like he is now, I'll be postponing so he doesn't get out there and over do it trying to help.

In my prayers!

I drove all over North Atlanta in the Missing Linc, a combination of errands and scavenging, a little real estate work. Weather here is that misty not raining but not dry crappy weather, can’t get anything done.

From craigslist, I spent $10 for an authentic Chinese tea box. Roughly 2ft x 20“ x 20“. Before everything on earth was shipped by plastic, these boxes were used for the high end teas that went to the high end tea houses in the early 1900s, the Starbucks of their day. It looks like a homemade thin plank box with a lid, but it’s actually a galvanized steel shipping container water tight with solder joints, clad with the boards. The removable lid is also lined with galvanized steel, and I forget, but they used wax or something to seal the lid to the bottom when it was loaded with tea. Very thin steel, the whole thing weighs 2 or 3 pounds. I had one just like it in my apartment in , every piece of furniture had to double for storage or something, but it wasn’t worth shipping over here.

My master bedroom has windows on three sides, and that’s where Lincoln stays when I’m not with him, but one window is blocked by my printer. I have a desk in an alcove. I’m going to move the printer and put the tea box there, so Lincoln can see out that window too. Should be an incredible barking opportunity since that faces the street.

Anywho, I drive the Missing Linc more than anything else these days. It’s a lot of fun to drive, it’s easy on the gas, and it’s Lincoln’s favorite. He doesn’t slide off the cloth seats, he puts his front paws on the center armrest, and stands erect like an emperor viewing his empire. It’s a hoot.

Anywho, the reason I mention it is because it gets attention anywhere I go. I’ve driven some pretty expensive and exotic cars in my lifetime, and I don’t think any of them got as much attention as this silly little 87 four-wheel-drive with the Lincoln grill.

When I went to pick up mail from my PÓ box, a very attractive young lady (30?) in tight jeans with a suede coat with the fuzzy furry arms and collar walked across the parking lot to tell me she thought it was a cool truck and asked me about it. Pitter pat…

Then, later, on one of the errands, I parked in front of a fitness place. When I was coming out, two very attractive ladies, in some very appealing spandex came over the same way and asked about the truck. These girls were a lot closer to my vintage.

So I’m feeling pretty empowered. I think I’m just going to let sweet pea know all of this, I’ve got options, let her know she’s got some competition

Well, no, scratch that.

I think I’ll just share it with you guys.

EDIT: I corrected Hangzhou to Shanghai above. My apartment, and base of operations, was in Shanghai, but our biggest client was in Hangzhou, and that’s arguably also where the best tea in the world comes from.

Cool find on the wooden box and wise move on telling the sweet pea.

haha. One of my favorite silly statements in conversations is about this or that for all the tea in China, “and I know how much tea is in China!”

The best tins of tea were traded and gifted like the best scotches out of Scotland. I really had to struggle to conceal that I was a coffee drinker.

i have some 26 yr old GLENFIDDICH ....unopened. maybe if i score a train car of tea tins to patch my ranger up with....i will open it..

i’ll trade you my tea case for that bottle!

So today it was 65°, but it was raining all day. Making me crazy, can’t get anything done. So Lincoln and I went scavenging in addition to running other errands.

I got to JoAnn fabrics and got that skull image cotton fabric I’ve been needing…..

In between the raindrops, I wire brushed my $15 folding ramps, and discovered one of the ribs was rusted almost through on one side. I went into the shed of miracles and got a piece of flat steel about 2“ x 3“ to make a patch. Then (my welding leads have been laying in the driveway anticipating finishing the Missing Linc trailer) I went to weld up the ramp.

Wasn’t it William Wallace in that Braveheart movie that said something about lightning bolts flying out of his ass? I always thought that was just Hollywood drama until today…

I did get the little plate welded on, and then later today I got the three loudspeaker/siren speakers I’ve been looking for…

The small one is like 8x8.

I also went by sweet pea’s house. She had a paper jam in her printer, and couldn’t connect since she upgraded her Internet. I got that all done, and she was happy. I neglected to tell her about yesterday’s adventures…

More to follow…

Rode the bike up to Mills River, NC to pick up some parts at Barnes 4WD. Timed my visit so I could have lunch at a microbrewery along the highway in front of Barnes. Today's food truck is open for lunch.

And stopped for some photos at this semi-restored filling station.

I ordered a 120w/channel stereo amp for the ‘Raith radio but mostly for the CB PA output to play around with. I think standard CB is about 10watts. $10 delivered. It’s rated 12-28v. If it doesn’t work well enough on 12, a 12 to 24 step up amp is like $17.

Standard CB output is 4 watts max per law. 12 watts for single side band. Output for the PA, I have no idea.

I was dissapointed today. Needed to run by Harbor Freight on my lunch break to exhange some things, so I didn't carry a lunch planning to grab something from a food truck on base. Mexican food truck that is normally at the comissary every Monday and Friday. They've got a great steak quesadilla, good burrito too but I really don't need all the rice they put in it. Did my parts exchanging, got back on base, and no food truck.

I don't know if they didn't show today, or if I missed them. Had to settle for Chinese from the BX. It was good though.

Those little AMP boards interest me. It's hard to believe the 120W+120W claim when a normal 400W 4 channel amplifier dwarfs those boards. I'm sure that it would get loud enough for me even if it doesn't live up to it's claims.

I've thought about getting a couple of those with the bluetooth modules to try and play around with building DIY portable speakers. You know the ammo can speakers that are so popular. Then I realized it was too convenient to just go buy a portable speaker. Less than $60 on Amazon prime day got me a pair of 30W linkable speaker with more battery life than I need (can charge phone and listen), more volume than I normally want, and in a package smaller than I could easily build. I couldn't buy the parts for an ammo can speaker at that price.

I know it's not the same thing you're using this board for, and I still haven't dismissed the idea using one to put a hidden audio system in the old F-100.
