What did YOU do today?

it’s just an old poster from the sound of music on a piece of plywood behind the back door
it aint that hilly here , just windy. Dont think Ive seen soybeans on the sound of music either.

So I haven’t been updating, but Sunday turned into a rest day. I’ve been pushing hard lately so it’s not unexpected.

With some help, I finished getting the stuff out of the box truck and stored over at my property. I need a couple more totes and to organize some stuff, but I’m not worried about that right now. Today I got the tires aired up and the box truck mostly prepped to move. Tomorrow will be finish prep to move it and get it moved.

Got the little trailer moved and set up for dad to tinker with loading up the firewood for the church bonfire on Saturday.

F-150 got a tank of gas. Apparently there’s still a fuel leak somewhere around the top of the tank. Irritating.

Choptop took me out to run a couple errands on Monday. Green Ranger was out today. Now the ABS light is on in the Ranger. Not sure why.

Going to get some help from my buddy Paul on Friday and we’ll get his camo truck dragged out of my property and up to Paul’s.

Also had a couple friends over Monday and Tuesday evening. One of them is going through a lot right now. His parents were getting a divorce and then his dad had a bad stroke and his mom is straight psycho. It’s all sorts of bad.

pulled headers off a 98, 4.0 ohv. straight trippin cause it had 2 metal gaskets on each side rather than1 is this common?

welcome @lancasterpunk29

no idea on your question. its been about 17 years since i had a 4.0 powered rbv

Replaced front struts on wife's Sonata as strut mount bearings were seized solid at 55k miles. Drove to every car parts chain in town yesterday price shopping (bored) and here's what I got for the full strut assembly, in the order I shopped in.
1. Carquest - $310 each
2. Napa - $283 each
3. Canadian Tire - $202 each (wow!)
4. Hyundai - $97 for _just the bearing_
5. Marshland Auto and Marine - $149, until he asked if I was in their system to which I said yes. He says "I can give you a better price if you're in the system". $129 Canuck bux.

I kinda wanted to go back to Hyundai and tell them how much I got the whole assembly for, hoping they'd say "yeah, but that's not OEM quality parts" to which I would have responded "you mean the OEM quality that lasted 55k miles? 😂 🤬 🤬

That's what the original struts looked like after 60k miles. Strut towers looked miserable too. Worse than my 40 year old Datsun.

Got the belt in for the mower yesterday but was rainy so I wasn't going to lay in the yard and change a drive belt, glad I waited since it's not exactly easy to reach anything in the grass with the deck on... first time around I missed one of those wire pigtail hanger things and one pulley... Eventually did get it after about an hour of screwing around with one break to look at the parts diagram which showed a bend where the other pulley was :)

Broke the F-150…

yeah…

So I finished prepping the box truck to move and got it hooked up to find the front wheels were locked tight. Made 5’ long trenches before I figured that out. Bunch of screwing around to get that free. Then I started going to find the steering was binding on the box truck. Freed that up and made it to where I was going but heard a pop when I got there. It was acting funny so I went looking. That pop, was the radius arm letting go on the bottom…

Probably couldn’t be in a better place. I have options. I can try to source a replacement arm from the like 50 trucks there and swap it, or I can weld it back together. I can also either get a ride back (landowner brought me home), or I can drive the Choptop there and when I’m done, just hook up the tow bar behind the F-150 and head home. Options. I’ll gather tools in the morning…

Oh how I don't envy rust belt problems!

Another silly thing from Tuesday night, went over to my brothers and worked on a tractor that he wanted to try working on again since it'd been a year... took a little starting fluid but it started up ok, the injection pump is gummy but it's been that way since we got it like 9? years ago... still had like 20 gallons of diesel in it so he added like 20 oz of diesel clean and within 15 minutes of driving around it ran way better... that stuff is magic... The tractor in question is a cute little Ford 8600 with a 401 cubic inch inline 6, N/A on this one (he has a 9000, that's turbo but it's about clapped...). No brakes but not the biggest deal on a tractor (they're hydraulic, he has a piston rebuild kit for the master, that's all it'll need). He was hoping the PTO would work and sure enough it did (9000 pto doesn't work), 3pt even goes up and down somehow (again, not on 9000). So he's going to give it a try, he's been doing some oats and hay stuff and mowing the stubble with a smaller tractor with 6' brush hog is apparently getting old so he needs something to run the 14' tow behind mower with 1000rpm pto that he's had for a few years without anything to run it...

I compiled a list of parts I need for the upcoming replace everything in the front suspension because I would like to replace everything since I have to take it all apart to replace ball joints and bushings and I have 200,000 miles on it. Tomorrow I will search for replacement springs for spring code 33, which is Ford part number 5L54-5310-LA and Moog part number 80664. Moog discontinued this spring in 2003 even though it was used through 2011. I think Husky Spring has them. Has anyone used Husky coil springs? I want to make sure they have enough quality to last a long time.

I’m a city kid. I can tell you about old steam and hot water boilers in apartment houses, dumb waiters to take the trash down to the cans, alternative side of the street parking, etc.

I am amazed that I actually understood everything you said. It’s like when I first started going to China, pick up a word here, and there, and a little arm waving…

I don't really like any of your options... looks like it will be a brawl to swap... not sure how much metal you have to work with to weld especially once you get down to good metal.

BTW your balljoints look thirsty...

Our cell provider got bought out and we had to transfer to the new company. My wife spent four hours down there dealing with that yesterday afternoon. I declined getting a new phone, the one I have works perfect.

Later last night I was looking for something in the barn using my phone for a flashlight and caught a support brace with my elbow and dropped my phone. Luckily it landed screen first on the open latch handle on the camper hitch.

First ever cracked screen.

It’s that phone company. They are evil. they can reach out and do things through your phone…
