What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)


this thing fell off my truck. what is it called and how do i replace it.
its raining right now and probably leaking onto my owners and haynes manuals sitting behind my driver seat. /facepalm

also i believe rear main seal leak has increased as there seems to be a steady drip of oil hanging off the front of my transmission. hmm.

That's just a cover for the back part of the gutter, don't know what it's called but it won't leak because of missing that part, it was just held on by two spots of glue apparently...
 
those are push pins that go into the cab. that roof corner trim is available on amazon for something like 40 or 50 bucks. mine magically came off when my son borrowed the truck for a few months
 
^^^ i still have the piece. super glue it back on? add a self tapping screw?

i changed my 3-5y.o ATF in my MT since i recently started towing the past two years. minimal gunk on the magnet, didnt even see any spikey shavings just a bit of sludge

my rotors on the otherhand are warped even though i had them resurfaced 18-24months ago. do they warp easier when theyre thinner from resurfacing? i swear i go super slow, leave tons of stopping distance, ride my transmission on downhills AND pump the brakes when i do slow down. is towing really that hard on the rotors? though im usually at trucks limit or overloaded on these long trailer drives

Use a mild nylon scrub brush like you’d use to scrub your nails, and clean out the groove really well. Then use a cloth with some alcohol to just get any possible little bit of grease out of there. Let it dry really well in the sun, or maybe just warm it up with a heat gun. You don’t want to get it hot, you want to run the moisture off.

Then I would use E6000 or Goop (Home Depot), they are the same thing. Two or three spots smaller than a gum drop and place the piece it on there and don’t disturb it for about 30 minutes. Maybe hold it in place with a couple pieces of masking tape. It will fully set in a few hours.

The reason I like the E6000/goop is because if you ever want to take it off, you can wiggle a screwdriver underneath it and it’ll pull loose, but it’ll never pull loose on its own from the wind or from a car wash.

Since the Choptop has had some issues and one of the recent codes was a TPS error and knowing that the TPS on there was under warranty, I decided to replace it. Well, don’t ask me how it happened, but apparently it was a 2.9 TPS on my 4.0 so it wasn’t under warranty and now I have a 4.0 TPS on it. In case any of you aren’t familiar, among other things, they don’t turn the same direction… don’t ask how it worked, I don’t know.

While I was at it, there’s now a new IAC on it as well since it’s had an idle problem. Hopefully between those two it will be a little happier. Otherwise I’m gonna have to do more digging into things.
 
rick W, thank you for the great introduction to E6000. theres a recently opened tube of the stuff in the junk drawer at my apt.

Now I need to check my stuff. I vaguely remember taking the new one off the 2.9 when I bought the truck. It would explain some things...
