What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

My Ranger got ducked!

Better Ducked than Goosed.

Same yard, different gang.

Our three year old ducks (big pekin drake aka "Big Bird", rouen hen and kahki Cambel drake) hang out together. That is Big Bird is under my truck in the pic.

This year's waterfowl (two Toulouse geese, two emden geese, two pekin drakes and two cayuga drakes) all hang out together.

The two herds don't fight anything but they are different packs that run around, they are funny.

Oil change on the 24. I found out you can easily chnage the oil from underneath. The filter is easily reached and removed but i had to see it from another angle to be able to do it.

Finally fixed my exhaust leak. It's the first time since I've owned the truck that hasn't leaked somewhere. I ended up with better idle no check engine light after idling a few minutes, and it doesn't try to stall pulling away from stops now. That's a whole lot of improvement for $15 worth of parts and an hours work...

Fought with trying to get working AC in the Choptop… between the rain… and there was a LOT of rain… creek is in mild flood stage.

Literally every part of the AC is new in the Choptop except the electrical. I have some sort of electrical problem. I show power at the clutch when the system is on but no ground. Turn off the AC and get ground on both pins. Activating the clutch with my power probe says the clutch works and the pump works. Pressures seem a little wonky, but it’s also not fully filled so maybe that is the problem. I also know that R134a needs to cycle in the system a bunch before it seems to settle. Or at least that’s what I’ve noticed using gauges before.

I have no idea what I’m doing with A/C systems, but I followed @97RangerXLT ‘s instructions in his AC repair thread, and the Road Ranger has been frosty ever since. Might want to take a look there….

Yesterday & today.

So, a few minutes ago, I put my refrigerator/freezer in the truck for the day. Going to have dinner with some friends after church. Mom is bringing fresh strawberries and I'm taking ice cream to go with them. Plugged the unit into power in the house last night and got it down to temperature - 21 degrees in the freezer, 36 in the fridge side. That's just where I had it set for testing a while back. Should be good enough. This is the first time I've plugged it into the new power system on the truck with solar panels and house batteries powering it.

Yesterday, I got the majority of the fabrication done on my hammock stand. Made an adjustment to lower it some after these pix were taken. I would like it to be lighter. But, budget and time constraints dictate that this is how it will be for a while.

Plugged into "house power" system.

This hammock is by ENO. It is a "bridge" style and is supposed to be flatter and more like a regular bed. Don't think I could sleep in a regular one, all curled up like a taco. It has a built-in mosquito net that zips closed.

I read his thread awhile ago. I’ve messed with AC before. The Choptop got a new evaporator, new condenser, new hoses, new orifice tube, new dryer and yesterday a new compressor. Literally everything but the electrical is new. The electrical harness bit is from the red Ranger because I couldn’t find the one from the Choptop. The harness worked in the red Ranger. So something is going on. Just kind of annoyed that I spent all the money to put an entirely new system in and I’m still having problems. I have a gauge set (yellow jacket, so quality), and I have a vacuum pump. After 25 minutes the vacuum pump was struggling. I had 29 of vacuum from almost the instant I turned the pump on. I had already previously pressure tested with CO2 and soapy water to confirm no leaks.

hmmmm. Maybe, if the harness came from a red truck, you need to paint the chopped top red, and then it will work….

just trying to help

Drove it to the Noblesville Greencyclle to get rid of the two ornamental bushes/ trees that i pulled out over a week ago.

No. The Choptop is staying blue camo. Period. If the red Ranger was still on the road instead of smashed, it may no longer be red by now. My fleet is supposed to be blue or grey with the only exception being my green and black Ranger…

so you’re saying the AC in the red Ranger wasn’t running when you pulled out the harness? I rest my case.

😜

I checked all my fluids in the 97, and then double checked my parts stash for doing a tuneup. The check engine light was on (it’s normal state), so I stopped by AutoZone to plug it in and see what the code is this time.

The code stated “replace intake manifold gasket.“ So I went and looked at the YouTube video, and damn dear had a heart attack. Looks like you have to take everything off the top of the engine and from around the engine, except the trailer hitch to get at it

Before I do all that, anybody have any suggestions? Is there something else that would lead to this error code? I’m going to reset it and double check it a couple times before I dive in. BTW, the truck is running like a top.!
