What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I imagine it would be covered, but I only have liability on it. If I did make a claim, they’d probably total the truck 💩
If they can paint less dent removal it, that’s what they do

That looks like paint less work…

Stopped by home depot on the way home and grabbed 4 more husky totes and 6 bags of water softener salt in the '97, of course it was near 80F and after a hot restart it was gutless like it is normally when it's hot... the 300lb of salt in the back of the bed didn't help but still... when I got home after I unloaded the salt I pulled the winter cardboard blockoff for the radiator since it's supposed to be almost 90 tomorrow, I watched the coolant temp on the way home on Torque and it never got over 87C but it wasn't even 80F out... plus I'll be towing on Saturday, another round of auction pickup like a month ago :), this time just some big PVC pipe and some irrigation fittings...

leaving to drive the ranger to lubbock after work. going to try and knock out 4 hours of driving today and do the last 4 hours tomorrow morning.

meeting my youngest son to bring the wrangler home. lubbock is halfway between. he leaves colorado, goes across new mexico, and drive a few hours here in texas for his 7.5 hours. i just go through part of texas for my 8 hours. at least we aren't meeting in amarillo or somewhere farther north because i still wouldn't get out of texas.

Made it to lubbock. Decided to just drive through. Got here at 1100. No problems except some freak storm about halfway here that had hail and terrible headwinds so i went from 19mpg to 16mpg.

The '92 is gone, so is my spare chrome Explorer grille and a good passenger side headlight assembly and the grille guard I ended up with, I'll support a 17 year old that wants to learn to drive manual transmission, I think a 4 cylinder Ranger is a good base for that use :). Found out tonight that thing has 3.45's in the back, better than the 3.08's I started with but since it needs tires and wheels told him it'll need like 205 75 14's to be reasonable...

Yesterday went and picked up the auction stuff, one lot was 4 pieces of 12" PVC pipe, two 12' long, one 17' long and one about 10' worth, I'm pretty sure it's around 800lb of pipe we stuck on the trailer... it slowed er down :)

Then today I picked up a set of wheels for the '97, $80 for a set of 4 15x7" aluminum wheels with center caps and lugnuts from a '09, now I just need to get tires! Oh and gotta strip the clear coat off the wheels, they're getting rough, I'm not too picky but while I've got the wheels bare might as well... if I remember right, doesn't oven cleaner get that stuff off?

my son said as soon as he got back on base, someone offered to buy the ranger from him. it is a very good looking truck, thats for sure

Picked up a quart of aircraft stripper and a can of wheel clearcoat for the wheels I got for the '97, hopefully get a start on that this weekend...

I drove it to a nearby places that sells camper shells and truck stuff to see if they have any used camper shells, then asked about new shells. I was given a runaround and told they run about $4000 and take 12 to 16 weeks to get one shipped.

No, they don't cost that much, and they don't take that long to have one shipped because several places in California make them, including a place about 25 miles away. For some reason he just didn't want to talk about a potential sale.

I've never understood why businesses treat customers like an annoyance.

Yeah, you would think a business would be happy for a potential customer but a surprising number of places anymore just give bad attitude.

4k seems about right for a glass cap these days...

Admittedly I havnt shopped for any personally... just what I've seen people say they spent on other forums over the past couple years.

Small businesses are often their own worst enemy. The biggest problems I've had with bad attitude, no-shows when waiting for someone to come to my house, failure to respond to e-mails, and failure to return calls have all been small businesses or sole proprietors. With poor service like that, you can't blame the big companies or the big-box stores when you find yourself out of business.

I spent about $3,000 for the tiny cap on my 2019 not long after I got the truck. Granted, it has a few options like a roof rack, a power block, and some other stuff but it seems the prices for fiberglass caps have certainly radically increased since I got the fiberglass cap for the 2011.

Why? Your guess is a good as mine. Less people are buying them? Lack of fabricators and assemblers to make them? Materials are harder to get and more expensive? A combination of all three?

I don’t remember the wait time for the thing to be built being that long either.
