What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Cut the hump out of the floor so I could replace it with a yet to be fabricated 1½" deep seat pan. Absolutely necessary so my helmet will clear the roll bar hoop.

The Road Ranger

Soooo, I started with this 97 4.0 2WD 5sp for $800. One-owner, babied through 305,000 miles, zero rust. Grandson inherited it, screwed it up a little and didn’t want it. Mechanically excellent except a slightly slipping clutch, a/c cold but leaks down, & cruise didn’t work. Oh, no carpet.

I added the cap.

Then I bought “Barney,” the purple 93 for $400, mostly for the 15x8 wheels. Banged up, ran great, kid who had it couldn’t bleed clutch & had to get it gone.

& about $2,500 later, now I have this (so far):

I think I have been a little ignorant of TRS protocol for where to post stuff, so I’m going to run through everything I’ve done so far, and then each thing I add, in the 83 to 2011 chat. I’ll put a little in as I have time.

(note Lincoln’s fashionable matching jacket)

Where I work we do the opposite. Take semi trucks and remove an axle. Then it's legal for class 5 license with air endorsement (Canadian class licensing system)

I have a lifelong career of doing things backwards

Took the ranger offroading this weekend, had a good time, did a bit of everything really... went down a rocky road, going way fast on a bigger gravel road doing TTB stuff (somewhere around 6k rpm in 2wd third gear for a few miles...), sand dunes, mud, etc... and of course some of the people in camp have actual race buggies and those guys are always a hoot to watch...

Do have a few things to work on on the Ranger though, the muffler is broken on the inlet once the rear hanger bent and the oxygen sensor heater ground I had bolted to the oil pan fell off so it doesn't idle right now since it's adding so much dang fuel... oh and the radius arm bushings are shot, I have a couple spare sets so I'll put some in...

Could start a thread about with details about each of your rangers. That way it doesn't get lost in the shuffle with this thread, can add to it later as thing progress.

Duuuuude. I remember reading about this when it's idea was still in its infancy.... love it. Love it love it love it.

Gotta bring it to the ranger nationals or whatever.

Thank you, A lot of work, but a lot of fun.

I might do that. Is there a calendar of events on this site? All I could find were write ups of past events.

What part of Georgia is that? Will the hotel have valet services?

Cool, Let me do some figuring and see if I can make it. Is there a goodwill/Craigslist/garage sale category?

Not Georgia.

The Ford Nationals truck show thing is in Carlisle, PA.

Our fall adventure gathering will be in Kentucky - Land Between the Lakes

Got the seat pan cut out of 18 gauge steel and tacked together today. Not finish welded because we ran out of shielding gas...........

Brought home an old shipping crate to use as a raised garden bed. Probably about 4’x 4’x15’. Trailer with crate was probably 3500lbs. Crate was heavier then I expected, tractor could barely get it off, had to lift it up and pull the trailer out from under to clear the fender.

Damn I saw the picture and got all excited thinking you were going to build a giant hot tub to bring to the TRS 2023 Fall Adventure. Then I remembered it is a family event and the type of people likely to attend said event. Probably for the best that its going to be a planter, I probably wouldn't want to see most of y'all in your speedos (or less :bad:), I certainly wouldn't want to be seen in mine.

I was hoping for a personal day today but my sweetie drafted The Missing Linc to go get a bunch of flowers and bushes, and I was the chauffeur.

If that wasn’t bad enough, she made me buy these guys, and now I have to plant them in my flowerpots or risk her wrath!

Let no good deed go unpunished…
