What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

This one is from a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder (P/N GNTX-453) Pretty easy mod and I was done in about an hour. Installing the temp sensor behind my grille and running the two wires to the cab took half of that. The rest was tapping the two power wires and ground into the fuse box. Homelink gets constant 12v and compass, temp and autodim gets key on power. 5 wires total. Mirror base was the same as mine.

That sounds ridiculously easy and like I can easily turn it into an all day project…

I spent more time at the JY rummaging through various vehicles. I had another post where I mentioned I lucked out and the kid at the checkout table waved me on so I got the mirror, harnesses and sensor free. Well, actually $3 which is what they charge to enter the yard…but you can’t beat that deal. Somehow I forgot the little black plastic wire cover that runs up to the headliner. May go back for it for the extra $3….but it actually doesn’t bother me as is.

That’s a hell of a deal!

Replaced the Thrush Rattler muffler with a Summit 2-chamber. So much quieter now. Not as annoying. Replaced a dead bulb in the gauge cluster. It’s full LED now <3. Scored an air box at the junk yard for $26. They usually go for close to $90 on eBay. Saw an ‘07 Ranger with rear disc brakes. Might go back for it next time. Cleaned the ricer air filter.

Yeesh. Sounds like I may have to start going to the local yards and open a ford ranger airbox superstore on ebay lol.

This a straight up swap like yank the axles, replace the backing plate/caliper mount and install the rotors and calipers? Ebrake cables need to be changed? I’m assuming newer RBV’s had abs rears but that wouldn’t matter on my 99 that had drums I don’t think. Wondering if the metering is the same from drum to disc. Also wondering if it’s just better to grab the whole rear end and swap it as a unit? I love tinkering with my older vehicles and 4 wheel disc is a conversion I did on my 2012 Jetta that had drums. That was a relatively easy swap other than yanking the Ebrake cables from the disc donor.

Rear brakes from early 2000s Mustang are a direct swap also, on the 28 spline rear axle Rangers. They tend to be easier to find at the jy than a later Ranger.

Found a replacement for this at the pull a part in a 1996 Ranger with 348,000 miles. Interior was pristine. I probably should have grabbed the seats and console between them, but I am poor. Paid 19 bucks for the headliner and 10 for the visors. Now I need some time to install it

I’ve no clue. I’ll have to go back a get a better look at it. I think it’s a 7.5 because the whole thing was still there. All the explorers pretty much had no rearends.

Not sure if there was a 7.5 that got disks, thought it was always 8.8”. Should be a pretty straight up swap if it’s from a Ranger, only thing to watch would be the gear ratio, especially if you are 4x4. If it’s a different ratio, you either have to re-gear or change both axles. Be worth a closer look and you would have to use the e-brake cables from the donor, at least the rear ones

I drove it to Walmart to buy a new coffee maker after I recovered from having an anxiety attack because the old coffee maker quit working. After the coffee started working I resumed cleaning the garage and piled some of the useless junk I've been hanging on to for decades into the back of the truck and drove it into an apartment complex, pretended I was a resident there, and tossed it into a dumpster.

When I got back I used a 50/50 mix of Purple Power and Water and tested it on the wheels and tires to see if it will get rid of brake dust because semi-metallic brake pads make a lot of dust. It did a really good job removing it.

People who do that really <censored> me off. Do you realize that now the tenants whom that bin is intended for have NOWHERE to put their garbage? And do you realize that now the landlord has to pay extra to dump your <censored> so that the tenants have somewhere to put their garbage?

Next time, take your trash to the <censored> dump, and pay the dumping fees yourself!

I wish I had back all the money illegal dumping has cost me.

I made one fella get in my dumpster and remove his trash or I was calling the law... and he did. I gave him my two step ladder so he could get in and out.

You folks have cost me thousands...

I agree with both of you but I can also understand the urge to use someone else's dumpster. In Calgary any dumpsite has a minimum charge of $25.00. Doesnt matter the size of load. In my case it's a one hour round trip and about $10.00 in fuel on top. The closest to me is $30.00 dump fee. There should be a $5 or $10 fee for small amounts...
I see garbage, usually couches, beds or stoves, fridges dumped beside the roadside on back alleys or little used side roads. I wonder how much the city is really saving by having such high dump fees when it probably costs them a minimum of $50.00 to cleanup that trash?

here, if your driver's license shows you live in the city, you don't get charged to dump normal things. and if you bring metal stuff, they take it in the recycle area so you don't have to go through the dump line.

but, the long drive to get to the dump apparently puts people off because they throw stuff under the over passes and behind buildings that are for sale or along the side of the little used roads.
