What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

I knocked some rivers out for the new suspension brackets. Trying to shrink down the pile of parts on my garage.

...Trying to shrink down the pile of parts on my garage.

Parts are like bikes, firearms, and tools..

The proper number to have is n+1, where n is the amount currently owned 😅

Got my 30x9.5s installed. Went with Achilles desert hawk x-mt's, random Indonesian off brand (news to me honestly, I figured they were Chinese) got em from eBay for 370 bucks shipped.

Super happy with them so far. This is my first experience driving on m/t's and I'm super impressed with how well they dig in. Easily as big a difference in traction as having a limited slip vs. An open diff. Really glad I opted for m/t's over an a/t.

Poser shots just because.

Disregard the front end for now, skidplate and tube bumper within the next couple weeks.

Pulled the motor and trans out.

Replaced all the Freeze plugs and used Indian head shilac on the new ones.

Got the mcleod clutch on the 157 tooth flywheel

T5 is together ran into a lil issue with a double roll pin situation.... wasn't me.... though my buddy accidentally put one in the shifter when the replacement used one had one hiding in it..... still need to mock up my hydraulic clutch setup with the Nissan external slave and pull the interior out to cut and weld. And put it all back together.

Took the '90 to Christmas Valley Oregon for a few days like I normally do in April, just a shorter trip with less amenities with the camp grounds closed...

Anywho, figured out what's wrong in the rear end, the Aussie locker is FRIED or at least the corners of the teeth must be worn off, I got one good run in but if you push it you have no rear drive and horrible noises... had to put it in 4wd to move normally without too many bad noises... so now I need to look into warranty or other options...

Changed the oil. Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage 5w-30 and Motorcraft filter.

Rebuilt the edelbrock carb in the “blackwidow” ranger. The old sbc didn’t like sitting for a year. Also put some fresh gas in it. And let it idle for a while to piss off the bitch that lives behind me.

Installed a new radiator today. Hoses fought me all day. After wanting to slam a wrench into the fender I walked off for a minute, crawled under a truck at a different angle and after 5 different types of pliers I finally got the old one off. Got to top the trans fluid off tomorrow and see if my coolant still evaporates in the system and that my temp guage finally works properly. EDIT: I did install new hoses cuz lower one had a micro crack in it so I think that was letting air into the system enough to evaporate coolant plus my overflow container was clogged with some weird goop so I had clean that out somewhat. Got my fingers crossed everything just works.

Been noticing a slight "burned oil" smell lately after driving a while, so did some investigating. Couldn't find anything up top, so put it on the lift. There was a pretty decent oil film on most of the underside. I was dreading it being the rear main seal, but it turned out to be the front pinion seal. It was evidently a fairly small leak, but the spinning driveshaft was slinging it across the bottom of the truck and onto the exhaust. I replaced it, but the yoke had a pretty deep groove in it so I'll be doing it again as soon as the new yoke comes in.

Eaton makes really good lockers don't know for rangers though. I had E lockers in my one dodge it worked great for when you needed 3 wheel drive etc.
There are plenty of better videos on it explaining it but this give you an idea.

Turns out I ordered it in November of '09 so it's a mere 8 years past it's 2 year warranty :)

My friends were trying to talk me into a Yukon Grizzly locker, they're $550 on Amazon and $750 on Jegs or Summit, I don't want selectable for the rear, I like the auto locker driveability, for a lunchbox I am ok with how the Aussie did and for $310 it's still on the list of what I might just put in it...

Are you staying with the 157 tooth flywheel, or changing over to the 164??? What size is your clutch? 10 inch?

Im using a 157 tooth flywheel now with McLeod 75105 10.5 inch clutch. I was using a 164 tooth flywheel before with a 11inch luk clutch with a M5ODR2. Both are 50oz so it shouldn't effect balance. Im using a 87-93 aluminum bell and im going to use a hydraulic setup I saw on here and ranger fourms. But I haven't seen if its a reliable setup. Also the MG guys use a similar setup when they put 5.0's and T5's in their cars. I have a thread started in the V8 section but noone has chimed in on the reliability of it or if they used a similar setup.
