What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

@Rick W

Had a warm day with a record high temperature last week, so I checked the A/C and discovered it didn't cool. Last summer I had had to run the A/C on max to get good cooling, so clearly there was a leak. Today a shop tested the system, replaced two Schrader valves that had oil around them, topped the refrigerant, and it seemed to be holding pressure. The replacement refrigerant has a UV dye, so I get tio bring it back to the shop to check the system with a black light next week.

Got a load of firewood from the back shed again with the '97 tonight, supposed to snow a couple inches starting at about 9am followed by some freezing rain for good measure... so I'm not taking that to work tomorrow, a couple inches of snow doesn't worry me but I don't trust other people... so I'm going to take something with roughly a similarly bad traction problem with a welded rear diff, the '00 Explorer... the '90 Ranger would probably be best but there's the IAC issue and the random smoke show out the exhaust is probably frowned upon in greenieville...

Removed the traction bars a couple of days ago. Will not be going back on. In process of selling them. Had them for 25 years, making some changes to my truck.

Glad to see your still tinkering with your truck!

Removed the 2 wire connector closest to the ground terminal. It rotted internally and left the PCM unpowered. Oddly enough it ran fine till I stopped at the end of the driveway.

Still do as I can, which is very little these days. Was hurting alot after. Had a hunch on something, they were removed. A small piece of the frame needed to be addressed, therefore they won't be put back on.

I completely understand. I do this or that, sometimes hurt like hell, and I know the frame needs work. Makes it hard to work on the trucks when I feel that way.

Put my laptop on the green Ranger... it has some issues…

P0453 - Evap Emissions Control System Malfunction
P0455 - gross Evap leak
P1409 - EVR circuit failure
P0174 - Bank 2 too lean

P1891 - Transfer Case Contact Plate Ground Return Open Circuit
P1867 - Transfer Case Contact Plate General Circuit Failure

C1155 - Left Front ABS sensor failure

ABS doesn’t surprise me although I hoped I was past this problem. This was a problem I had chased repeatedly prior to the 5.0 swap so yeah. Guess I take another stab at it…

The transfer case thing is because I’m using the AWD case so there is no plug. Of course the AS-BUILT doesn’t have a way to turn this off in the GEM. So I either need a different GEM or find a way to resolve this. I’m thinking I might just need to ground one of the transfer case wires (currently I have a blank plug in the wire) and then it will just read as 2wd all the time.

The Bank 2 too lean is a problem I’ve had since I swapped motors. Same with the EVR. I’m not exactly sure what to try next to deal with those.

The Evap problem is new. I suspect I’m going to have to do some smoke testing. The main Evap line running from the engine bay back is all new, I did it in aluminum tube and fuel line. Theoretically that should have resolved any issues there. Gas cap seems to seal tight and I don’t see any obvious problems…

I still need to order the taction bars for my ranger. But the 24 ranger needs some add ons the wife wants so it gets fun parts first.

The 04 runs and drives fine so its ok

I noticed a few drops of oil under the truck several times this week so I crawled under it and noticed the oil filter gasket was leaking. It was due for an oil change, so I went ahead and changed the oil and filter. This is the first time I've had an oil filter gasket leak. So, that was weird.

added 400 cubic inches of traction.
short block only, for now.

since I already have a complete 351M all I wanted was a crankshaft but had to settle for a package deal.

I don’t know as much as you guys do, but I think it’s supposed to go in the other end of the truck
