What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Never say never. The possibility just just greatly reduced.
But you just said it twice. Is that a double negative that really means "always"?

Drove across the ATL north side in the rain in the Missing Linc with Lincoln to pick up a $50 3500# brake axle with one good 5x5 hub. Other end spun the inside bearing, but minimal etching on the spindle.

I have four 5x4.5 hubs, four 5x5 hubs, and four spindles (all 3500# new) plus bearings, caps, shackles, u bolts, etc., from an earlier group purchase, so a lot of options.

The bearing failure is the exact same thing that happened to me on the Road Ranger on the way home last month, and I watched how they polished the spindle and put it back together. Shouldn’t be too hard. I’m already thinking of a couple more projects.

Now I need to scare up some cheap springs

Correction 5x4.5 hub. The rain stopped about 5:30, so I went out just to putz a little bit so I could get something done today, and I decided to check out the axle. Well, 60 minutes later, I had the bearing guts cut off, and I used one of those drum sanders you put in the drill to keep going round and round where the seal sits on the shaft, and it came out pretty good. I used a used seal that I had to check it out. I just pushed it on by hand and spun it around, and it would leave a grease line. Then I polished it a little bit more to get rid of the little bit of high and low. I still have to polish it with some super fine emery paper, and then use the mag polish, but I think it’s going to be fine.

Well, it appears I may have finally stopped the power steering leaks. Only took about a half dozen tries. And over $100.

The #6 fuse is still surviving.

That was about all that was done with the green Ranger other than a quick run over to my property and back to take a couple things over and bring back a fireworks board for wiring up so I can actually do this nicely this year instead of a bunch of rigging. Got all the wires for the mortar tubes for both boards cut and the ends on half of one board. Once all of those are done and labeled on both boards I’ll make up the wires for the cakes. If I have time before I need to use them, I’ll modify the remotes to connect to a 6 volt battery instead of using a ton of AA batteries.

I hosed off the mud on the 2011 and gave it a quick bath. I also changed the cabin air filter in the 2019. It's amazing how dirty that thing got in 11 months.

Actually did something with a Ranger today other than drive to work! I was mowing with the tractor yesterday and noticed a few Ash trees needed trimmed in the wetland area of my property so I can mow around them so I took the '97 down with loppers and the pole saw and went to town, didn't want to make two trips so I just loaded high and wide, there's a couple scratches on the roof but whatever... the burn pile is the stack of newer pallet wood you can see in the background just in front of the '90 Ranger so didn't have far to go, I rode the clutch the whole way but I'm over it...

Annoyingly the pole saw stripped a gear out just after I finished so it's scrap, but as a note the only tree behind the Ranger is the Poplars 100 yards back... that pile is like 8' taller than the Ranger...

Looks like my Afro when I was a kid!!!

Ordered new tail lights since everyone told me I had one out at LBL.

yesterday morning, on the way to work, a headlight went out on the F250. So, this morning, I drove the Ranger. Got a couple miles down the road and remembered the bad tail light.

Did you go back and take the bike next?
