What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Rigged some hardware to a 2x6 so I can take either or both bikes (one quick-release, one through-axle) without laying them down in the bed.

So today I did a little running around, got some new stuff for the wire feed welder, got an appointment tomorrow to get the exhaust finished on the green Ranger and got home to find a power steering leak. Sooo… I ground a brand new deep well socket into a thin wall socket and tightened the adapter against the aluminum crush washer as hard as I dared. I’m not sure if that resolved the leak or not, I needed someone to turn the wheel while I watched it but I can’t be in both places at once so I dunno. I do know that these leaks are becoming a real pain. The dump truck is the next big project…

I ordered a set of MaxTrax for my truck… obviously I got the blue ones.

Sprayed some panther piss on the header collector hardware.. this makes the 2nd soaking. Hoping I can get it apart somewhat easily. Looking forward to building a new exhaust for it.. my deadline to have the thing 'done' and ready for winter is the end of next month. Thankfully it doesn't need much.. I'm a candle leaking money from each end right now lol.

and thank you for that visual….

Green Ranger got the rest of the exhaust today. It’s louder than I expected, but it will be ok. It scoots along nicely. And the stereo at a volume of 8 (it goes up to something dumb like 40 or 50) easily drowns all but the loudest exhaust noise. Don’t make the mistake that means they are really quiet, my friends know when I’m coming with it.

I’m not entirely sure if I’ve resolved the power steering leak or not. I haven’t got help to check yet and there’s so much fluid everywhere it’s hard to tell. If it’s leaking, it’s not anywhere near as bad as it was. The #6 fuse has also survived another day, which at this point means my short most likely is in the O/D cancel switch wiring. Transmission has been behaving.

Anyway, pulled my lawn tractor out of where it was stuck at over at my property with the Ranger and mowed my property. Also fetched a cigar from the local shop today in my travels, shop gave me a $3 discount on it too so I’m currently located at Porchville, USA with my cigar and beer, which happens to be a Guinness Mint Chocolate stout.

I believe in a discussion not that long ago, someone had an issue with their overdrive switch. If I remember correctly, the problem was the wires in the column where they exit the stalk. I can’t remember if it was rubbed bare or pinched. But it might give you a place to start looking.

That’s actually pretty common on our F250s. It usually a wear issue, not a pinched wire issue.

It’s a likely possibility. I just have to decide how much I want to actually rip it apart and fix it and how much I just want to bypass to a switch on the console. I should never have that problem with a console switch.

Never say never. The possibility is just greatly reduced.
