What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Today I installed the most oversized lights ever.

Yes, those are 7” spot/flood combos with “side shooters”… and I don’t care that they’re way too big.

Did you have to add weight in the back so the front bumper doesn’t scrape the ground?

Sooooo, I haven’t done much except scavenge since I got back from the 40th. The weather finally broke and it’s very comfortable here so I wanted to be productive. The u-pul-it has 50% off on holiday weekends like this. So I got up early and I ran up there to get the matching center caps for the Road Ranger. And I wanted about eight or 10 more for another project I’m working on, and just to have a couple spares.

Sooooo, it turns out that they have people who strip all the wheels and center caps when the vehicles come in, and they turn around and sell them on eBay. So my trip up there was a waste of time. If that wasn’t bad enough, all the Fords are in the very back end of the yard on top of a mountain, and I’m not getting any younger. I did thank the Man upstairs though, because I couldn’t have done it a couple of years ago. Today it was simply annoying.

Sooooo, not to be defeated, I went to the pull a part I usually go to. Ditto, no center caps. They had a few, just not the ones I wanted. When I talked to them going out, they don’t have an official thing like the other guy, but they say people show up the day the trucks show up and strip all of those kinds of things.

Not to be totally defeated, I was out of the lug nuts with the little flange that holds those center caps on. I was actually short a couple, and a couple of mine were pretty rusty and messed up. I had a little impact with me, so I rounded up 40 of them. Then the pull a part didn’t have the heart to charge me for them. Saving grace here is they rent golf carts. Best five bucks I’ve ever spent.

My other score for the weekend was actually from eBay, I got a $20 Pintle Hitch with a 2 5/16 ball, and I had the 2 inch ball to replace it in the shed of miracles. It was seized up and rusty,. I got it cleaned up, and I’m going to paint it. I probably needed another one like a hole in the head, but I couldn’t resist the price.

Turn them on after dark, and I’ll tell you if I can see them from here.

My truck is pointing south right now. I’m going outside to adjust them… let me know if you see anything.
They draw 107 watts and put out 11K lumens each… it should look like Christmas Vacation.

I went outside to test and adjust them. When I came back in my wife said “damn, those are bright.”
I explained that my truck is facing away from the house, all she saw was the reflection.

I was going to look when I got home, but I couldn’t find my suntan lotion.

Fixed a broken bolt on my driverside rear view mirror.

And reinstalled the bed mat and started stashing stuff in there for the trip. Not really to the level of "packing" get but staging junk that needs to go but will probably more or less fill in space between bigger items. Folding chairs, fire starter, water can, folding table etc.

Do you need another one? A great big one?

I completely forgot that I had this 500 watter stage light in the shed of miracles from who knows where in my past artsie fartsie days.

The beauty of this one, is when you turn it on, not only does it light up what’s in front of it like the sun, everything behind it dims from the current draw, which makes it look even brighter. And when you’re not using it to light something up, you can heat a small village with it.

You also siphon off all the power from said small village.

Nothing big today. Going over little things on my 85 BII resurrection. Fuel gauge not working. New everything. Disconnected all the wiring to it. Tested good. Reassembled and now the gauge works fine. 10 gallons in, says under half a tank with a 23 gallon tank🤔 Ghost in the machine? IDK. I would rather be luck than good.

That big ol lamp woulda lasted less then a week in my antique shop.
