Sooooo, I haven’t done much except scavenge since I got back from the 40th. The weather finally broke and it’s very comfortable here so I wanted to be productive. The u-pul-it has 50% off on holiday weekends like this. So I got up early and I ran up there to get the matching center caps for the Road Ranger. And I wanted about eight or 10 more for another project I’m working on, and just to have a couple spares.
Sooooo, it turns out that they have people who strip all the wheels and center caps when the vehicles come in, and they turn around and sell them on eBay. So my trip up there was a waste of time. If that wasn’t bad enough, all the Fords are in the very back end of the yard on top of a mountain, and I’m not getting any younger. I did thank the Man upstairs though, because I couldn’t have done it a couple of years ago. Today it was simply annoying.
Sooooo, not to be defeated, I went to the pull a part I usually go to. Ditto, no center caps. They had a few, just not the ones I wanted. When I talked to them going out, they don’t have an official thing like the other guy, but they say people show up the day the trucks show up and strip all of those kinds of things.
Not to be totally defeated, I was out of the lug nuts with the little flange that holds those center caps on. I was actually short a couple, and a couple of mine were pretty rusty and messed up. I had a little impact with me, so I rounded up 40 of them. Then the pull a part didn’t have the heart to charge me for them. Saving grace here is they rent golf carts. Best five bucks I’ve ever spent.

My other score for the weekend was actually from eBay, I got a $20 Pintle Hitch with a 2 5/16 ball, and I had the 2 inch ball to replace it in the shed of miracles. It was seized up and rusty,. I’ve got a cleaned up, but I’m going to paint it. I probably needed another one like a hole in the head, but I couldn’t resist the price.
