What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Thanks, I appreciate that, and I’ll file it away for the moment.

I figured this was a pretty cheap way to get it to spin and see if it works at all. Then I actually liked the idea of getting the right size O-rings. It’s not a top priority, but I got the rubber bands while I was there.
An o-ring might work. I have no idea what those original bands are made of but considering the heat and cold they are subjected to and as long as they last, it’s pretty impressive.
My understanding from playing a little with this stuff is that they usually use square cut O-rings, but round works too. Between myself and my dad we’ve replaced a few of these but never on a vehicle radio yet.

I’m confused. So how do you cut grass with your Ranger?
I don’t cut it with the Ranger or the Choptop… yet… I just use my tractor…

Interesting. I knew propane could be used, but I don’t have any easy way to fill the system with it right now. Plus I’m not trying to make a potential bomb right now, lol
Several US states and the US EPA have made it illegal to use propane– or other hydrocarbon–based refrigerants in vehicle air-conditioning systems. There are plenty of horror stories of lines and compressors in cars using those refrigerants exploding from underhood heat or electrical sparks, causing a larger fire that totaled the car. Stationary uses for the substitutes are acceptable. My home deep-freezer bought new in 2020 has a hydrocarbon-based refrigerant.

Has anyone attended any of these “rigs and coffee“ events? It looks like a bunch of crazies who ride through the woods and mud and stuff like that.

It looks like they’re all over the country. There’s one in Atlanta coming up. Has anyone gone to the one in Atlanta?

Never heard of one. It may be a GA thing.

It's all over. Sometimes called "cars and coffee". Just a way to get like-minded people together to show off their cars, trucks, whatever and stand around talking. Sometimes the event breaks up with various members grouping together for a short day ride together. I've been to a couple in the western Carolinas.

My vent cap/oil filler (2.8) fell off and half melted on the exhaust manifold. So of course parts places can't find one, so I got some aluminum tape and sealed it up as best I could and reinstalled it. It's not moving now unless I reef on it. And it'll work just fine.

Hey thanks man! Sweet sauce!

I noticed they have entire rebuild kits for the 2.8 V6. I have a right mind to order one up, find another 2.8 at the junkyard or something, get it hot tanked and magnafluxed, honed and decked, get an engine stand and rebuild it in my living room this winter then get some help to cleaopatra it up and out of the house in the spring and do a motor swap one weekend.

I thought this thread died. I quit getting notifications of new replies several days ago. Good to see everyone still rolling on projects.

Winter is upon us here in Hotlanta! Maybe I can get a few things done outside later. It’s only supposed to be 88 and the humidity is a low 82%. Not the hot and humid weather we’ve had for the last few weeks.

I’m still in cleanup mode from the rush to get the Road Ranger ready for the 40th. Yesterday I finally got all my tools out of the truck, most put away where they belong. I was outside for about an hour and 15 minutes, really didn’t do anything strenuous, and I was soaking wet as if I’d been standing in the rain.

As miserable as it was, I give thanks to the Man upstairs that I’m capable of doing these things again. All things are possible under His grace, if we do His good work (no, I didn’t build the trailer for Him). He is restoring my strength, so I am capable of assisting others, which is my plan.

I am greatly inspired by the two 29-year old gals in Hawaii who have organized a citizen airlift to assist those devastated by the fires. Assistance in the absence of any government acknowledgment no less assistance and recovery efforts. The most forceful thing the Hawaiian government has done so far is to tell the media they cannot be in the area. Unconscionable. If you can’t send a few dollars, send a few prayers.

I'm feelin ya. One thing is for sure, we all must prepare for uncertainty. Things are changing rapidly. No matter what reason these things are happening, they're happening. And with greater fervor than previously seen.

I'm in Northern BC and the wildfires are so out of control this year the bears and moose have all come into the towns to seek safety. It's been thick smoke more days than not. I've personally called in 2 forest fires this year that I spotted before anyone had a chance to see them. One across our 2nd biggest lake and another on the upper side of the Skeena River.

We can seek to blame global warming, James Bond Villain satellites, Carbon, Human Caused... It doesn't matter what's causing it, we should all assume we will need to go at a moment's notice. I encourage everyone to have water, food, clothes and money in a go bag in their trucks. Maybe even outfit the entire family with bugout bags and GMRS radios or similar. Have a plan, meetup locations. A B and C. Everyone should carry a fire extinguisher. And keep those Rangers in tip top shape with a full tank of gas always.

That was quick

Now I have to do license plate mounts and lights…

I used the 2011 to haul old parts from the Nissan Versa to the scrap yard. The Versa is now road legal again as well. Though, it still needs wheel bearings. Replacing the rear bearings only solved half the problem. If you like working on vehicles, a Nissan will provide plenty of opportunity.

I finished up my suspension a couple days ago. Today was the first time I drove it.

New 1750 lb springs in the back... new shocks... complete brakes... 1 inch lift shackles... Yukon heavy duty diff cover. I really tried to put my new/used heavy torsion bars in the front. The lower control arms just wouldn't give them up. The bushings and lower ball joints still checked good... so I really didn't want to replaced them. So I left the factory arms and torsion bars and installed RC 1 1/2" forged lift keys. It's sitting at 1 1/2" over factory max spec. Still has plenty of rebound and it actually drives rather well. I have a couple hour trip tomorrow... I'll measure/adjust if necessary and calling it good.

I'm gonna pick up my roof basket and airlift system from storage while I'm out that way tomorrow. We'll see how much of it gets installed before the LBL trip.

I also see a cat back system in my near future...

It's a whole different beast now eh?

It kinda is...

I've never been too rough on this one. But... the factory suspension bits were tired. Feels good on this refresh.

Still a good truck... totally worth putting some money into.
