What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

well thanks for letting me know!

Yesterday I got the tractor back together and mowed my property and it worked out well, definitely have more deck height now and my modifications worked out well.

Today was a mishmash of things. Got a new license plate light put together for the F-150, which still has to be installed. Got a quick inventory of my electrical so I know what needs put on the next order. Also did a little re-organizing with that. Got a couple things out of the green Ranger. Have to empty the bed so I can pull it. Still a bit to go on that. Need a couple plastic totes though. Choptop got a few little things addressed, going to try to make some heat shields and get the AC finished hooked up. Started raining before any of that could be completed though. Which is why the doors haven’t come off and I want the AC fixed, this random rain this summer is a little too frequent.

Used the tailgate/bed for a workbench to cut more 2x4’s for the chicken house. Just bought a used miter saw at a yard sale for $20. (also bought a used lincoln 225 arc welder for $60) The miter saw works great, love it! Have to run new wiring to the garage before I can try out the lincoln. Typically they go for $100/$150 used when I find them. Only need siding for the chicken house now to finish the outside. Its gone a lot slower than I expected, still should have my chickens in their new home before winter though, The run I will deal with in the spring.

Replaced my air filter. And am continuing to get ready for the timing job on my ‘03 4.0L.

i just found this though

search for that and it comes up with a spread sheet that doesn't copy well. it comes out like what i tried to post

I have a PDF copy of TB 43-0147 (1975) for the 4-color and TB 43-0209 (1990) for the 3-color. I prefer the 4-Color over the 3-Color NATO pattern. It has more flexibility, depending on the type of climate, the color of the dirt, and the season you are in. Here, Deep Forest Green and Field Drab are the primary base colors with accents of black and sand as the general purpose, year round color scheme preferred by the Army units before NATO decided all the member countries needed to share the same camo pattern because it was obvious just from the camo pattern which military units belonged to what country. Before then, pretty much every country had their own pattern.

The M5OD shifter is ~70mm closer to the bell housing than the FM146. I can't take how hot it is inside the cabin with the huge hole in the floor. I'm CADing up a new piece of trim that matches the offset between my shifters now. Hopefully this works (and fits on a printer!)

Try having headers on too. And no carpet. If the rain wasn’t so darn unpredictable this year I’d have the doors off and it wouldn’t be a problem. But between that and the cops being ridiculous (they hammered the Jeep guys at JeepFest this year that were running with no doors, even though it’s legal if they’re factory removeable), I haven’t done it yet.

Well, today didn’t exactly go according to plan, but progress was made…

Did some more cleaning out of the green Ranger bed. Some other cleaning up and organizing too.

Also worked on the Choptop. Popped the cover off the evaporator part of the HVAC box and pulled the blower motor then shop vacuumed what I could. Tested the blower motor, put some weatherstripping around the cover, some new clips, bent up some aluminum for a heat shield for it, got it all back together, hooked up the last of the AC stuff, pulled vacuum, stole the AC harness off the 92 Ranger for now, and we’ll see how it is in the morning. If I still have good vacuum, then I’ll see about filling it. Still want to make a couple heat shields to see if it helps keep some of the heat from the headers out of the cab.

The issue typically is that while you are not required to have doors, you are required to have outside mirrors (at least on the driver side) and many of the Jeep guys don't want to bother with that.

I know I'm no where near being a pro-welder but I think I'm getting ok with this Flux core wire feed. Some are worse than others but I'm kinda proud of this weld

I didn’t experience it first hand, but from what I was told (I was at JeepFest, but we didn’t do the downtown Jeep invasion), the police tried to tell the Jeep guys that anyone who went to the invasion with no doors was getting ticketed for no doors and from what I understand they wrote over 100 tickets for no doors. I think it was a money making scheme, they didn’t care if the tickets were legal or not, but they figured a lot of people wouldn’t be from the area and would just pay up instead of fighting.
