What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Brought this back from the tow test. 20210528_145318.jpg

I had issues with fuel pressure gauge in diesel, they fixed no problem. Those gaugws are 10+ years old still work fine, same with bronco, ranger gauges are only a few months old

@G8orFord It's the 22mmx1.5...

That is for the 4.0L SOHC
Thanks @Uncle Grump. Went ahead and ordered the set. I'll give the gauges a shot, despite your warning and my knowledge of their past issues. Just simpler than trying to piecemeal it.

I'm not saying they don't work.... because they do. Even the harness for my oil pressure gauge was nice... connected right up and was long enough to go to my A-pillar pod. Which I bought from them too... fits like a glove... I like it. They say on Amazon that it won't fit the later model trucks. It does fit but most later model trucks have the grab handle on the A-pillar. You will have to remove it to install the 2 gauge pod... and I was OK with that.

The thing I don't like is the way they wire them up. They have to have a Hot at all times wire to keep the color selection memory alive. I found that it doesn't work very well... 6 out of 10 start ups will result in a color change. The other thing I don't like so much is that the circuitry turns the illumination on anytime the key is on. I feel they should only come on with the other gauge lights. I bought them really because I wanted to get a close match to my factory dash gauges and also light color. The match the look well enough and I can get real close illumination color but the intensity of them is off the charts. I'm sure it's due to the LEDs... just a quirk I don't care for.

I also went from a mechanical gauge to this one... it reads different oil pressure then the old mechanical gauge. My mechanics gauge has seen a hard life and I don't trust it for accuracy so I just got use to the current readings from the Glowshift gauge. It will still tell me if there is a problem with pressure... I just can't say I trust it for accuracy.

I think for the price point... they're pretty fair gauges. However... there are far better gauges on the market. You will just have to pay up for them.

I was writing my detailed reply when you typed your reply...

They will work for you... I didn't mean to bash them to hard.

For entry level price and quality... you could do worse with other brands I'm sure.

Added Loctite blue thread lock to all the brake caliper assembly bolts on my 2002 4WD Ranger XLT - including the rear Mustang disc brakes. Sadly I did not know that should have been done when I rebuilt the front end two years back. See:

Nothing yet. But going to get the Lightning out of it's garage, and go pick up some spark plugs and an oil filter for the Ranger. Change those tomorrow or Monday. It's starting to take two or three cranks to start, usually starts first crank. The thing eats spark plugs, so I suspect it's time. Been three years. That's pretty good for the old girl.

Decided to refinish the window trim pieces that were badly peeled. I just couldn't see paying $100 to get new ones with the same rubber coating that would fail again. Just little stuff. An easy 2 beer job and no removal required. Rustoleum Fine Texture rattle can paint is a great match for OEM. Rusty trailer hitch is next

That window trim looks perfect, crabguy.

Thanks. I don't think I've seen a single older Ranger with an undamaged window trim piece; makes you wonder why Ford thought an elastomeric coating was a good idea over bare aluminum? I usually try and apply a zinc chromate etching primer for any aluminum or magnesium item. Finished the hitch recoat today also. Now I need to brush up on my HVLP painting skills to repair paint/clearcoat damage on each door. This Ranger is like my Frankenstein and I get to experiment with new techniques and repairs to keep busy.

Test drove a 2021 Ranger XLT Tremor package yesterday. Pretty cool truck, but the $4000 premium over sticker they have on them turned me away. Salesman said our was because they're rare. This dealership had three and they had just sold a Lariat Tremor right before I got there. Gorgeous truck in the green/grey color, whatever it is.

Nuthin for mine.

Helped my father in law pull bucket seats and a console out of an Explorer for his '91 though.

Topped off the R134a in my ‘07 in prep for the summer, nice and cold now.

Going to drive my ranger to the mountains today for some alone time as I recently found out that my girlfriend died from covid-19 last week. She flew to England to see family around a month ago. Not sure how she got it...miss you Rebecca..rip.

To covid-19..🖕🖕🖕..
