What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

She was my little doll..she was a giver and never a taker, she loved me unconditionally..that is only a small sample of who she was. She is the best woman I have ever known in my life, we met almost 20 years ago, and have been a couple for 5 years. I was going to ask her to marry me this summer when she came back home. Now I need to prepare for other things.
Really sorry to hear about your lose. I cant imagine what you are feeling. You will be in our prayer and thoughts. Hopefully you have someone close to help you through this.

I don't, those close friends I lost a few years ago..they were my support. Knew them most of my life, and my girlfriend was there for me thru the whole ordeals..her support was what I needed. With her gone and it's sinking in more that she is gone..I want my Rebecca back.

My ole friend is helping me..

I’ll bet you have a lot of great memories of times with Rebecca, more than most people have in their lives. It might tear you up but remembering is honoring.

I’m a little worried about you, alone & all. Are you still working, or are you a retired old fart like me? Talk with anyone at work?

if not, I see your profile says “Lord God is my guardian.” Are you a church going guy? Friends at church? If not, the answer is still the same, swing by, talk to whomever is there & they’ll set you up with a “rent a buddy” prayer partner. I joke, but I think you understand I’m serious. You’ve got to get with someone local to share. It’s like changing the oil. It’s gotta be done or the whole thing will blow up!

Hey, if you’re getting your spiritual support from me, ya gotta know you’re in trouble and you need better help. Yes/no?

Let us know who you can chat with local, K?

hmmm, I always thought of the Big Guy as my Wingman, kind of a Partner in crime, myself.

May He watch over you in troubling times...

Don't go through this alone. I know, if you're anything like me, you don't make friends easily. Please DM me. I have some old, old friends in California. I would consider it an honour to connect you with them, so that you have somebody who can walk beside you in your grief.

Oh wise ones: Alternator question:

Ran around everywhere in Ricks future Ranger Rig & picked up my latest Craigslist score, 9 brass pole lamps for $20 total, for new lamp poles when they finish the road work out front. 97 ran perfect all day, battery icon came on 15 minutes from home,

1997 extended cab, short bed, 4.0, 5-speed manual (red)

The battery icon came on today. I figure the cheapest easiest thing is to check and swap the little brush module. But here’s the question:

If that’s not it, Whenever I change an alternator, I always get the max amps. The choices seem to be 95amp or 130amp. How can I tell if my existing is a 130?

Anything else I can check if it’s not the brushes? I already checked the alt & battery cables.

what I saved on these will pay for 3 alternators, but that wasn’t the plan!!

That is a 95 amp alternator. In the smaller sections on the front where the pulley is there are two holes. The 130 amp has four holes in that section, and to say the 130 amp is in a much bigger case. Buy a 130 amp for a 97 explorer and will bolt right on. I have a 96 explorer 130 amp on my 94 3.0 ranger. Have ran that alternator for 21 years, bought it from my friend's yard for 35.00.

Really do appreciate all support from trs...

It could be the brushes or regulator back there, but it could be the armature too... either way it's likely going full field (like 20V) so not good to run it much or you'll cook the battery or worse...

Drove it to work and back. Thinking I need to pull plugs at least on the right bank and see if somebody is burning extra oil. Starting to smell it more which isn't a good omen. Maybe a valve seal came unclipped off the head or something and it is a quick fix... :fie:

Kind of acts like valve seals but it shouldn't because they are not that old or have that many miles on them.

Probably guides... which is great because our go to engine machinist just retired.

As some guy on the internet once said:

Driving down a distinguished road in a 3.0 5spd Ranger...an open road helps you think, where you been, where your going....

@mtnrgr Did you maybe get it backwards? I forgive you considering...

95A is $99
130A is $129
170A is $199

Here’s the bigger Q:

I’m going to add an LED light bar, strobes, double conventional rotating beacon, strobe light bar, 20ft trailer w/lights, strobes and brakes, probably an extra brake axle behind Ranger Rear axle, and a small winch, occasional power inverter, etc.

The LED strobes take zero
Power. The brakes and winch are occasional use, boost probably handled by the battery. You guys think the 130A will be okay, or should I go 170A for $159. Or more? & yeah, I’ll add up amps, but I’d like to hear y’all’s opinion(s)

You’ll probably never use it all simultaneously. 130amp is most likely fine. But if in doubt, get the current rating for everything you would use simultaneously, including normal stuff that’s already installed, and add it together to find a minimum amp rating to aim for.

Something like a winch is a big load. But it is only used for short periods and the battery can supply extra current to make up for what the alternator doesn’t supply. So, if you add headlights, light bar and winch for a nighttime recovery and it comes up 10 amps more than the alternator output, thats ok for short durations.

I’ll be adding a second battery too, in back. A slow drain marine monster.

by the “patina” on this alt I’m wondering if it’s been on board for the whole 315,00 miles

Another thought/question. If the brush kit doesn’t fix my 95amp alternator I’m going to replace it with a 130amp.

does anyone know if rock auto will accept the 95 amp as a core for the 130 amp?

and half the reason I’m posting this is because Someone was looking for the rock auto phone number. They do not do any customer service over the phone, but they do have an email you can reach out to that will answer you:

service@rockauto.com

I sent them the Q

I doubt they would even check it... other then to see if it was a rock.

Yea no one checks to see if the cores are matching parts. As long as its somewhat sorta shaped like an alternator your fine, they all just get thrown in a big pile and shipped to china. When I worked for Advance we rarely even looked in the box, just slapped a sticker on it and chucked it in the bin. They didn't pay us enough to go inspecting garbage...
