What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Is it just me, or was anyone else NOT surprised that a person who goes by @sheep herder had this particular clip?

The lavender and purple seems somehow appropriate. šŸ¤”. I can’t put my finger on it, and I’m pretty sure I don’t want to!

That's for the car insurance company and the homeowner's insurance company to sort out between themselves. Horrendous weather where you are this week so I doubt they would give you a hard time. Stuff happens. Like my wife hitting two deer in three months with her minivan. Paint was barely dry on the new front end and it was on a flatbed back to the body shop.

Their homeowners is covering it since it happened on their property, im just giving them the $500 deductible but none of our rates will go up so I'm happy.

I went to the store in mine... 4 inches of fresh snow. I got what I needed... then left a donut in the parking lot.

So now that I did a bunch of stuff to the 92, when we got the snow at the beginning of the week, 4x4 decided to quit on me. Had been working great and bam, nothing, not even clicking. Pulled the fuse under the hood, checked it, cleaned the contacts, put it back in and it worked long enough to put it in 4x4. Tried to take it out later and nothing. Shut it off, turned the key back to run without starting and it let me cycle it out. Tried again the next time I went out and nothing. Pulled the fuse under the hood, cleaned it, put some dielectric grease on it and it worked... once. Went looking for the module because @holyford86 said there was a reset on it... well, I found the module on the other side of a rust hole.... meaning I can see it from outside the truck...:black_eye::annoyed:

With the snow we have had lately, while not much in overall depth, it has been enough to test out the BFG ATs on some poorly maintained roads. I’m not disappointed so far.

If this keeps up, I’ll be replacing my old winter tires for mud terrains.

roads were really bad here at the start of the week, was going to take the ranger one day and as it gets halfway out of the garage it stalls, wont restart so I have to push it back in to shut the door & drive the hhr (which I hate for bad weather, was almost a year ago I ended up in a field with it) . Ive noticed lately the ranger needed a boost if it sat more then a few days without running, and im wondering if the starter could be where the parasitic drain is coming from. After I got home from work (and it was a bit warmer then the morning) the truck did start and I pulled it out into the yard so I could try the lawnmower w/blade on my drifted driveway. I know its not a battery issue, I tried swapping the battery from the allis which was new last spring. Alternator was new 2 years ago and charges just fine. Might get a big kerosene shop heater so I can work in the garage, supposed to be teens & single digit temps through next week. Way too cold to try to work on anything for longer then 5 min.

I don't see how the starter could be a parasitic drain. It's disconnected from the battery unless the starter relay is energized. Voltage regulator for the alternator would be more likely.

Busy night here. Put a new starter in the ā€˜96 Powerstroke. It was suspect, I think I overworked it when I cleaned the gas out from my friends thank-you fill up. It was the original, 121k now. Turn the key and it pops now. Only took 45 minutes.

Then I worked through the punch list on the 87 4wd: put one of those spring looking things from the shed of miracles in the custom-cut lower radiator hose to spread out a kink; final tightened the brake bleeders; topped all the fluids, now all on the inside, no leaks; put the old spare in the bed with a lug wrench and jack, but figured out what I’ll put underneath for a spare from the tire and wheel pile and put a 3/4ā€ spare wrench in to let it loose with the 2ā€ receiver blocking it; tightened down the $100 cap, lubed the locks and locked it all up; greased the single grease point on the pitman arm (only one??); and, then I got in and turned the key, and, AND !! ::

How ā€˜bout that under hood light!!

I ran it for thirty minutes, no leaks, heat inside, all the options except a/c (missing compressor) working perfect!

I was going to drop it off the jack stands and do the test drive, but the trailer I bought as the core of Rick’s Ranger Rig was blocking a wheel and it was already after midnight. Sooo, after lawyers tomorrow (my favorite pass time), I’ll drop it, check tire pressure and cap the valve stems, torque the lug nuts, and drive it over to the Redhead for dinner!

I’m so excited, I’m like a child at Christmas!! I can’t wait!!!

(But I already know the ā€œdrive it over to the ā€œRedheadā€ isn’t the wisest move...)

Worked on my rock sliders over the past two days. Passenger side almost finished. Have a good start on the driver side. Details in my build thread.

Lawyers were a blast, ate the whole day. Rather have Jim’s fire ants in my jock. Movie at home with the Redhead, & no, I smartened up and didn’t drive the 87.

I did take a few minutes and ordered custom seat covers for the 87 & 97, both in keeping with the planned paint roll on.

Test drive 87 tomorrow for sure!!!
