Maybe they quit with the blue on the 80's. I just Google'd it and it basically gave me the rundown of the "blue", it never mentioned gray, just blue, and red and green valve covers.
Every single one I've seen has some gray paint on it. Valve covers, timing cover, oil pan. Upper/lower intakes are not painted. I think the blocks were painted gray too but none of my four have any paint left on them at all.
A 94 would have been a 4.0 ohv and I don't remember seeing many of those pulled out. The worst thing on those engines was the valve cover and intake manifold gaskets leaking oil on the early ones and a few heads cracking under the valve cover and leaking coolant into the oil on the later ones, usually after being overheated. The engines came from Cologne so they could have been painted a different color than the standard for the time gray.
