What color was the 4.0l block in 94?

Probably gray.

I'm thinking gray, but I feel like @4x4junkie can confirm this.

The 4.0s were never painted iirc

Mine was gray.

Everyone I've ever seen was mostly rust colored.

Mine does appear to be a light gray as well.

Ford quit painting blocks on the 80's

They must've started painting them again for the '90s then, because mine is clearly a light gray, not rust.

Maybe they quit with the blue on the 80's. I just Google'd it and it basically gave me the rundown of the "blue", it never mentioned gray, just blue, and red and green valve covers.

Every single one I've seen has some gray paint on it. Valve covers, timing cover, oil pan. Upper/lower intakes are not painted. I think the blocks were painted gray too but none of my four have any paint left on them at all.

my 97 is gray. I panted the valve covers Ford Blue when I redid the gaskets 9 years ago. may need to freshen that up again this year.

My valve covers were painted black on my 3.0. Most of it chipped off. Don't know what color the block is. The color of dirt and grease I suppose.

I was thinking Grey ?
I will let you know when I get it out just what color block is

A 94 would have been a 4.0 ohv and I don't remember seeing many of those pulled out. The worst thing on those engines was the valve cover and intake manifold gaskets leaking oil on the early ones and a few heads cracking under the valve cover and leaking coolant into the oil on the later ones, usually after being overheated. The engines came from Cologne so they could have been painted a different color than the standard for the time gray.
