well, my mazda project is just beginning. I know sooner or later I will have to switch the axles out.

When I get it done, I hope to have an engine pushing out around 400 hp rolling 38 inch max tires (probably 35s most of the time)

I want to keep the TTB. yes, I know a lot of you hate it, I don't want to get into that arguement. I will probably be swapping in a d44/d50 ttb from a fullsize.
Am I gonna kill one of these?

I know I will be safe with a d60 in the rear. but what else might work?

Just so there are no questions on the matter, the truck is being built for baja style wheelin'

You can break anything if you try hard enough. It all depends on how you drive.

I can't say that I would expect tough rugged performance from the D44 TTB. Guys on here are breaking them... an you will be jumping and shock loading it, with 400HP at your disposal. I dont know if the D50 is any better, you can always hope!

i think you should run a 28...them are very strong

but ya depending on how you drive it...a 50 should be great...i am seeing guys on fullsizebronco.com run 38s all the time

With that kind of power you'd be lucky to keep a 'stock' HP60 up front with 38's. A set of chromoly shafts and 35 spline outers would help, but I've seen people break more with less.

Skip the D60 rear, 14FF is what you want. That is unless you want to buy the D60FF rear axle that I have. $100 and it's yours.

D35/D44/D44TTB... these are all around the same strength. None are up to 400HP and 38" tires.

The D50TTB is a little bit stronger, but not incredibly so (shafts have the same small neckdown as D44 shafts). I still don't think it would be real reliable with 38s and that much HP behind them.

Although then again, IIRC a lot of the Baja guys leave the vehicle in 2WD for much of the time. Maybe with conservative use like that, you could get away with using the D50 (I wouldn't use the D44 though). The D50 is going to need a bit of work to the beams if you want to run it with radius arms though. The D50 brakes & rotors are pretty heavy too.

all it takes is money.

jack at ctm can set you up with some killer 35 spline stuff. he has made up some custom stuff for fullsize ttb broncos before.

i suggest 35 spline 44 in d50 reinforced beams with d60 c's welded to the beams and 60 knuckles and outers with high steer arms and full hydro swingsets, unless you can get the 50 stuff to work with 60 shafts.

if its straight high speed most of the time(cant see that with 38's)you may want to look into modified smaller longfield cv setups with modded 35 beams and 30 spline arb setup up front..

hard to say, alot of ways to get there, but none overly cheap and easy for beginners.
