Hello,

Can you tell me what the steps are and what equipment I need to drop the transmission from my 94 Ranger with 6 cyl. 3.0 and 5 sped manual transmission? My slave cylinder is gone and I need to replace it myself since a can't afford the $500.00 dollars in labor at the shop.

What is a good brand slave cylinder to purchase?

Thanks

Drop drive shaft(s), remove t-case (if 4x4), undo shifter boot and shifter. Be sure to leave the trans in N. It'll just make things easier. Go around and unplug and plus that are attached. Use a hydraulic disconnect tool to push the white collar in and disconnect the hydraulic line. Remove your starter (disconnect neg bat cable), and start on the bell housing bolts. Grab another person. pull. reove slave with....2 bolts? pull off. put new one in. A clutch alignment tool may help realign the spline. Getting it in may be a bitch, or it could just slide in......depends on how your truck feels about you. You may inspect your clutch real good and make sure brake fluid didn't get on it. If there is any doubt, or it looks worn.....I'd replace it. If you get a clutch kit, it'll have the alignment tool and maybe even a cheap plastic disconnect tool inside it. Otherwise:

If you don't have a body lift you will probably have to pull the Y pipe also. I have gotten the transmission out without taking it out, but it was a pain and I couldn't get it back in until after I took it out. I have also seen people on here loosen up the body mounts and jacking up the cab on one side and that might be easier especially if yours are in need of replacing anyways. I haven't tried that yet, but maybe next one that comes my way.

CHANGE YOUR CLUTCH! unless its pretty new already i just replaced my slave last summer 09 i beleive and i was too poor for a clutch and now mine is on its way out i also drive it pretty hard... but none the less if you can afford it DO IT!
