What kind of ford is this on the trailer? I asked the guy he said he didn't know it was his boss's and he thinks its a 70 something. It had round headlights and ford on the hood.

It's a ford courier, the predecessor of the ranger.

courier.and if they can v8 swap a focus or miata, anything is possible

Yup, early Courier. It was a Mazda built pickup that Ford bought.

It can and has been 5.0'd, you run into the same basic issues as an early Ranger.

since you a Dodge guy, think D50

The d50 and courier were both made in Japan too :icon_rofl:

Love the little Courier's! I do imagine things would be a little tighter when swapping a V8 in to one though. They are more compact than a first gen Ranger.

I know but they are rare in Pa. Other wise I would have another 78 macho, a 70' 4 door like below, a D50 with a 318 or 360, another Ramcharger. I love dodge v8's and 72-93 trucks But of course ford is my #2 goto (ranger and mustang only really) what can I say I like the ranger its a great platform.

Plus they are probably really rare. So I would probably not want to "ruin" its originality

They aren't super rare but they were marketed and sold as business and delivery trucks so they usually lived hard lives. All the ones I've run into are whooped. A nice one is rare. At least around here.

A nice one is rare, all the rest are rarely even noticed.?

I haven't found nearly as many d50's as rangers/s10's the one I did find is near Ft Indiantown Gap is near flawless but the owner is M.I.A no pune intended.

I think they are ugly as all holy hell so I purposely try not to notice them.

As far as engine fitment. I don't think they have the suspension, frame or rear axle that a early Ranger does though.

Here is a 4x4 Courier build if you need inspiration:
