I have trying to get my clutch to release for damn near 3 wks.now!!I have put in 2 new master cylinders and today I replaced my slave cylinder.I have bled this POS every way everyone has said to bleed it!!!!....I still am getting no more than 1/2" of travel out of the release assembly!!!!WTF!!!!!...any suggestions????I am still getting fluid coming out of the top of the MC where the pushrod goes in-is this normal? The clutch pedal is firm and is getting a full pressure stroke....could there still be air trapped in it somewhere? Thank God I have a REAL truck (S-10) to get me to work!!!!!!

i know it says you bled the system, but was that at the slave cylinder? there would still be air in the system if you didnt. are the parts your putting in used? or even worse, from autozone? btw i wouldnt say bad stuff about rangers on a ranger site, you probly wont get much help from anyone. besides chevys are like handgrenades.

Sorry about the rant guys!-I'm just aggravated at this thing at the moment! I have installed all new parts-not from A-Zone (actually bought parts at Advance-not much better I know).

the fluid sould not come out of the ram, i will have to look in my hayne manual tomorrow, sorry its in the garage and its about 30degres out!

If you got fluid leaking from your new MC, then you need to place it. Only place that it could leak is either of the 2 lines that are on it. If its leaking from the pushrod you got a defective MC. There should be not a drop of fluid comming out of anything.

I guess it is possible to get 2 new MC's in a row that are defective-I'm living proof of that. I bought the first MC from Rockauto,it was bad,I had them replace it,which they did with no questions at all.The replacement came last Thursday,I put it in on Saturday, still no clutch .Saturday evening I removed the trans and also the slave cylinder-it was very cruddy and gritty-so on Sunday I went to Advance and bought a new one, hoping this was the problem.I put the new slave in Sunday afternoon (missed the race)-still no clutch .Maybe I should have bought the MC from a local parts store-sure would be easier to obtain a replacement.I have wasted almost 2 wks.trying to get my clutch working, most of which was waiting on parts.I reckon that's what I get for trying to cut corners(the MC was $24 cheaper at Rockauto).I'll try to get another replacement(another wk of waiting). I'm almost certain I'll get another bad unit(I thought Raybestos was a good brand).Should I take my trans out again and make sure nothing is wrong with my pressure plate? I did not replace the clutch disc and pressure plate as my truck shifted and released just fine when I started taking it apart last summer to paint the frame. The truck has 130,000mi.on it.Thanx for the response guys,y'all are the best!

Just spoke to guys at Rockauto-they will not replace the MC again but they will issue a full refund plus shipping for the defective MC.:) I will stop by NAPA tomorrow and buy another(probably should have to begin with).

I'm sorry you're having so much trouble InTheStix.

I've gotten every clutch kit since the original one went out (3 now?), from AutoZone without any problems. They all bleed well and last a while for me too! Plus they are lifetime parts, so as long as I own my Ranger I will never have to buy another clutch piece as long as I live.......except for the "Master Cylinder". That was'nt a lifetime part.

Here's some pics of what the parts look like:

It seems hard to believe that you've gotten two bad Master Cylinders in a row, but they are definitely NOT supposed to be leaking AT ALL. I'm not lying to you when I tell you how I'm bleeding mine with excellent results, but a leaking Master Cylinder COULD DEFINITELY contribute to a system not being able to be bled properly. Just go buy the parts locally and let us know. Thanks.

Those are good lookin parts Hardwareman-is your slave composite or aluminum? The one I bought is aluminum-components made in USA(assembled in Mexico-no surprise there!).When I had the engine out,I pressure washed it to clean it up for painting-do you suppose the pressure plate is rusted to the point of binding and blowing out the o-ring in the top of the MC? I took my original MC apart and there is an o-ring in the top of the steel bore between the steel insert and the composite MC housing.I guess this is what keeps the fluid in the housing instead of coming out the top.Should I just go ahead and replace everything? BTW-that's got to be the cleanest bell housing I've EVER seen!!:D

Did you replace the clutch last time you had it apart? If not, with 130k on the truck, yer sure due for one unless someone swapped it before you bought it. And yes, they can seem fine one day and suck the next..never heard of a pressure plate getting rusty enough to hang up like your thinking, but heck, if it's really rusty, I'm thinking maybe it's original. As for blowing out the o-ring, you should be able to put both feet on the pedal and push as hard as you can and not be able to pop that seal. If you've got a leak there, either its worn out or a factory defect.

Oh yeah....That's got to be the cleanest lookin bellhousing I've ever seen....

Don't know the age of the clutch,Dad bought the truck with around 90,000mi. on it.I got the truck when he passed away in '01.It looks to be original-I'm gonna replace the disc and pressure plate-already bought a new slave and bearing assembly.Gonna buy a new MC too.....after 2 defective ones.Looks like another weekend project!

hook everything up but don't put the master cylinder in place till u bleed it by hand, with the angle they sit on u may be getting air trapped at the top, make sure it is fairly level and below the resviour, this worked for me after a day of trying to bleed the air out of my system
