Need opinions on Motorcraft oil. I'm just about ready for the second oil change on my 08 2.3L. First change I used Valvoline, but heard that Motorcraft was just as good and less expensive. Whats the word? Thanks.

i use motorcraft oil in everything now, seems to be a better oil then anything else out there

Oil is oil. As long as it has an API SL rating on it. Almost all do.

If your engine is spec'd for synthetic, use it; otherwise, get whatever is cheapest.

Motorcraft is a sythetic blend, and is a tad cheaper than the Napa/Vavloline I use. I briefly switched to MC, but the local Wal-Mart is inconsistant about stocking 5W-20 so I switched back to Napa/Valvoline otherwise I would still run it.

generally, but i have always noticed for some reason engines with motorcraft oil are slightly quieter....hell it even quited down my valve tick on my old 2.9 to almost where i couldnt hear it.

dont know why, and i wont pretend to, but i just like it

+1

Ford does not have an oil manufacturing facility--it is re-labeled valvoline or castrol or havoline etc.

Go to wally-world... grab a Motorcraft filter and a 5-quart bottle of pennzoil platinum synth, or mobil 1 synth.

I did, however, run the motorcraft synth blend oil for awhile in my Ranger when I learned that synth oil is better, so I used it for a couple times to sort of bridge over into synth since I had nearly 60k miles when I switched. No complaints with it.

Super Tech synthetic or mineral. I use synthetic. shady

No conplaints with Motorcraft oils. My buddy used it in his 85 Crown Vic with a 5.0l engine. Always had a ticking problem. Switched to Motorcraft, ticking went silent and the engine seemed to run smoother. Personally, I use Royal Purple 5/30 in my 96 Ranger 2.3L. It maybe getting old, but it just never shows it.

Ours comes in a Esso tanker truck.
That must be Exxon Superflo oil. As MAKG stated, paraphrased, as long as it has the current certification and is the mfg proscribed viscosity, it doesn't matter. Synthetics offer extended drain intervals and above-normal temperature protection.

I would deff. use the motorcraft oil, But living in AZ with 110* days I decided to go with the synthetic oil, also when it is so hot I really don't want to go out and lay on the floor if i don't have to so extended intervals is perfect for me. I really never noticed a differnce between between synblend and pure synthetic.

All I've ever used in mine is MC 5w20 & MC filters. Hit 98k miles last week, it doesn't use/leak/burn any oil. I'll keep using it for the next 98k. Aint broke dont fix it.

The service manager at my local Ford dealership some years ago told me that Motorcraft oil was Valvoline. I have used Valvoline in every type of application from Top Sporstman Drag Cars, Jet Speed Boats, and everyday vehicles, I have no complaints at all. I must give Mobil 1 oil some high marks also, I had a Bronco II with 180000 miles on it, from the very first oil change it never had anything other than Mobil 1 put back in it and it never had the valve tick that most 2.9 engines get over time.
