What a joke!!!!!

$89.00 buck for a piece of rope that you can buy cheaper at west marine or even better just buy a tow strap for alot cheaper that was the joke

Oh.

*crickets*

You know most people on here are nazi's about safe recovery techniques? I'd pay that much for a rope... cheap straps/ropes suck, and aren't so cheap when they take out a windshield or a face.

i paid i think about 40 bucks for my strap about 2 or 3 years ago and it doesnt even have any tear, strecth marks it looks brand new pulled other trucks out with it. haha we have to act like safety nazis to keep people safe and have them use common sense when pullin people. but i do have to agree the cheaper the strap the more chances it has of breaking but cant say ive really ever seen a strap break and sling around but cables and chains sure will thou

i have broke two and both did fly but not far i broke one with my nissan frontier and a tractor trailer and they other wa with my ram 2500 and a jeep j20 :icon_surprised:

I doubt you break one of my chains with a RBV...... Maybe a F/S recovering a Dually or if you are not taking the slack out of it and just popping on it.

I have 7/16" G7 chain rated with a 7700# WLL (stamped in the clevis hook). Use 3 together (in parallel) and you would snap the tow point before the chains broke.... I have used 4 to pull a loaded tri-axle (68,000#) out of a ditch...... we used a Michigan loader and 2 chains to drag tractors around the yard when they were stuck.

that being said ..... if you don't know how to use a chain then don't use one because you could kill somebody with one and I much prefer straps but I have seen straps break

where do you get chains like that?????

Yeah I prefer to use chains too but sometimes the do have disadvantages, atleast for smaller vehicles. A Strap has stretch so you can tug on the vehicle a bit when recovering it. with chains you can't really do that (or atleast I don't like to) because theres no give... you hit the end of the chain and it just goes taught, always made me feel like i just ripped off my bumper.

I dont really need a rope or anything since I cant do much off roading in the ranger and the bronco is down, but when it gets running again, I will be getting one of these

they have them all the way from 19,000 lb breaking strength to 74,000. A recovery rope is not something I would be cheap on. Master Pull and Amsteel Blue are the leaders of synthetic ropes.

Chains are better then ropes, depending on how you use them. I Obviously wouldn't want my friend to pull me out with a chain because I know he would gun it and F**k something up... I on the other hand go up till its tight and then ease on it....:icon_thumby:

Chains work great when the pulling vehicle is heavier than the stuck vehicle, or if the stuck vehicle isn't that stuck.

But when the pulling vehicle weighs the same or less, or if your REALLY stuck, a nice stretchy rope like the ones from that link ( I own one from that company) works 10x better.

I agree with the "you must know how to use the chain", but sometimes you NEED to be able to gun it and use the extra force that makes, a good rope will take that, and minimize stress on the both vehicles.
