Wet headliner, but at least my wipers worked!

$33 wow... I feel much better about my $3 tube of generic RTV butyl rubber I used on the window of my '48 :p
That might've made it easier to set the window back into place vs the rope style.

No clue if it would even be half right for this application, but on the '48 that was really the only option. On a positive note it fixed any issues for me on that truck. I drove it to the museum and zoo in downtown Denver in pouring rain several times.... hated the tiny little 10" wiper blades, but at least the glove box and my lady's feet were dry.

Tightening the nuts to get the window back in place with the new tape was probably the toughest part of the job to me. I spent a little while to make sure I was tightening them evenly across the window. Even then, at the end there might have been a tiny gap but I didn't feel comfortable cranking on it anymore 😂

I don't think you can damage anything. The bolts aren't touching the glass. I didn't think it was really difficult. It was kind of a hassle moving the back panel and side panels out of the way. I was able to use a 1/4" wratchet to tighten the top without removing the headliner. I parked the truck with the back facing the sun to soften the butyl rope and snugged them up a little more. I broke about four panel clips, so I will have to acquire a few of those. I think I am going to try the ones with the plastic screws in the middle to see if they work, if I can find them in the size I need.

My painstakingly renewed headliner got wet (first time in rain). Right by the rear window. I was thinking maybe the gasket/whatever on the cargo light, so whipped up a gasket for it.

But when I was putting it in, I noticed how much the window was pulled away from the body.

I saw that there should be some butyl tape in there fighting the good fight, but seems like a big gap. I guess I could wait for the headliner to dry
and then pour some water on it again and see what happens

Opinions?
Mine is fixed like that. It's worked at least for several years now.

She's a little pricey for sure. Don't look at how much it costs at the auto parts store! 😂
FWIW, I found the exact same stuff on RA for a third less. So that's nice. I just searched the 3M product number.

1/3 less, but add the shipping and it's the same or less on Amazon and arrives faster. Atleast it's that way for me. That said, seems like I can get it locally for about the same price.

Probably need to pick some up and do it on dad's truck. He's been talking about the back window leaking for a while. Pretty soon we're going to be digging in to install a radio. Probably aught to do the window too while it's in there, so it can be removed from the to-do list.

Actually a valid point. RAs shipping is stupid. That's why I spend so much time choosing parts that come from one location. I always forget how much of a pain their shipping policies are.
